I actually just applied for a policy yesterday through New York Life, recommended by other moms on this site through another posting.
My husband & I are looking to get Term Life Insurance and I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a company to look into. Thanks in advance!

Find a good insurance broker in your area.
There is no charge for getting you quotes.
A reputable person will give you quotes for all companies they are allowed to do business with so check with more than one.
The only difference in quotes should be the difference in companies a certain person is appointed with. You can do research after that as far as ratings, etc.
I, personally, because I have an insurance background, think your best bet is to find a local representative that can be helpful through the process.
I mean, it's so nice to be able to go into an actual office and sign things or ask questions, etc.
I don't know anyone licensed in CO and I'm not currently working in the field, but I would shop for brokers in your area. Don't take the first quotes and don't take the first person you meet.
It's free to get insurance quotes with a licensed agent or broker.
Best wishes.
Hey Mama,
Talk to an independent agent. They often can find quotes for many companies at once.
You need to find one with a high rating, A's or better. You also need to consider which company can quote better depending on health issues.
When it comes to insurance, everything form asthma to depression can lower your rating, and some companies put more weight to those issues than others do. This is why working with an independent agent can help.
Good Luck

I feel I have to recommend State Farm since my husband works there. Seriously, though, it is worth looking into your auto or home insurance carrier if they offer life insurance. You most likely will get a discount on your insurance if you use the same company.
New York Life is who we have all our Life Insurance policies through. You might also check the Dave Ramsey web site to see who he recommends.
My husband is an insurance agent and he used to work for Farmers.
He now works for Americal National. He can typically come in 20-30% UNDER the big three (Farmers, state farm, allstate) on most policies (and even Gieko). So what does that tell you about the big 3's rates? Can you say 'price gouging?'
I got term life insurAnce a couple of years ago through
Northwestern Mutual. The entire process was hassle free.
The agent came to our house to present different options
And I did not need a full physical just a simple blood test
Which was also done in the convenience of my home. And
AffordAble. Good luck!
I know of an AWESOME guy with Northwestern Mutual. They are a great company and this guy is really personable and they provide a good methodology for deciding how much to get. They also really helped to meet our budget. ###-###-####
Use a website as your preliminary source for a quote that has several carriers. That way you pick from the best rates and you know they arent trying to put you into a policy that is not best for you. I used www.mwaquicklife.net they had an agent go over my requests by phone. Non-biased is best!!
Shane B. said it perfectly! Do not go with "captive" agents (i.e. NW Mutual who can ONLY sell NW Mutual). Go to an independent investment advisor or life insurance agent who can generate multiple quotes from multiple carriers. Any agent who ONLY sells his own company is not giving you the appropriate picture of what is available out there. And, DO NOT do it online! An agent can help you through the process (the physicians statements, MIB, etc) and be your advocate. We have had clients try to do this online only to get screwed! Best of luck!
