Try drying the clothes out in the sun, that may get rid of the smell. We use lestoil routinely and once the clothes dry, I don't notice the smell. I agree, it is not a great smell!
Hello moms! Does anyone know how to get the smell of Lestoil out of clothes? I used it to get some oil stains out, have washed the load 3 times and still all the clothes stink like Lestoil. Also, any recommendations on getting oil stains out of clothes, besides Lestoil? The stains are coconut oil, Lanolin, or breast milk stains (who would have thought breast milk was oily?).
Thanks! M.

Lestoil works the best for oil stains, but to get the smell out you need to dry the clothes. I have never had the smell linger as long as I dry them.
i use to use lestoil but found out awesome from the dollar store works just as well and doesnt leave the after smell . try soaking the clothes inwater and your favorite sented frabic softner be fore washing again.
hi - i am a huge fan of Lestoil, but it does stink. I usually add 1/2 to a cup of white vinegar in the softener container of my washer, and have no problem with the smell.
good luck - BTW - the only thing CLOSE to lestoil getting out stains, is that I bought an olive oil bar soap from whole foods, and rubbed that on the stains. got out lipstick and some ground in chocolate.
good luck.
Dawn dish soap works to remove all grease stains. just wet the material and lightly cover the stain with dawn work in with finger and let sit. I usually do this overnight. Also good is Zout found in the stain products aisle. It will remove dried blood and even some "set" stains.
I use lestoil all the time for stains and love how it works. I have had no trouble getting the smell out. I, however, do not put most of my clothes in the dryer. That may be the issue.
I'm not sure about the Lestoil smell issue, but for ongoing I would suggest you put dish detergent, such as Dawn that has a degreaser in it - I use that on all my clothes that have oil based stains on them as a "pre-treater" and it does the trick every time!
Sprinkle corn starch or talcum powder on an oily stain before washing. The fine powder sifts through the fibers to absorb the oil, then rub with Felsnaptha bar soap as a pre-treatment, just to be sure. Felsnaptha is great on stained baby bibs, rompers, etc. Also, you can make your own laundry detergent by grinding or shredding Felsnaptha to equal 1 cup (probably 1 bar) and mix it with 1 cup Borax and 1 cup washing soda (Not baking soda). Use 1 Tblsp per normal load or 2 Tblspns for large or extra-dirty loads. This is a "green" approach to laundry, saves money, and doesn't cause suds which are death to septic systems! No phosphates or petroleum by products, either. I haven't had to use fabric softener with it, but you can add 1/4 cup white vinegar to the rinse if you feel the need to soften.
M.,
I don't know about the Lestoil smell but my husband is a farmer and I use ammonia in the wash when he gets his clothes greasy, sometimes it works depending on the type of grease it is........just follow the intstructions on the bottle.
You could try Dawn dish soap. I hear they use it when there is an oil spill on the ocean. That might take care of the smell too.
any idea if the Coca cola worked? Was that person refering to using it to get rid of the Lestoil smell? I'm desperate. Washed my boyfriends harley "handwash only" rain jacket & it's so clean but reeks of Lestoil!!
ok just now tried VINEGAR & it WORKED!! Lestoil smell bye bye with white vinegar! yea!!
To get oil out - make a paste out of powder dishwashing detergent and let it sit on the oil over night. Wash clothing as normal. (also get most stains - even already washed & dried stains out).
Smell - put a cup of vinager in the rince cycle.
I have done both at the same time.
Good Luck
Believe it or not, bottle of coke cola! Just pour it into the wash at the begining of the cycle along with your detergent.
have you tried oxyclean? the powder formula, you can add some to a bucket of water and soak clothing items for up to like 6 hours. i've been buying things at garage sales with little stains and soaking it in that before i wash and they always come clean and smell great....it's my new favorite cleaning product!
I have had very good luck with liquid tide getting out all types of stains.
I have nver known breast milk to stain. it comes right out.
