I have been told that leg pains are usually due to a potassium deficiency and that eating a banana--even one a day--should help enormously.

I am 21 weeks pregnant and due September 11th with baby number #3. I have been waking in the middle of the night several times when i roll over to one side or the other to extremely horrible calf muscle pains!! It hurts soo bad, that I often wake up and grab the spot and rub it and sometimes I have cried because it hurt so bad. Has any one else experienced this ?? Am I not eating something?? Am I missing something in my diet that would take care of this?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Charlie Horses and they hurt so bad....
I got them with my first pregnancy and now I'm prego with#2 due in October and am trying not to get them this time around. I'm going to try and eat potassium and be really hydrated.

From my experience, if you have pains in your legs it's due to lack of calcium or potasium.
Eating a banana before bedtime works. Or upping your calcium.
Eat some tums.
It makes a huge difference.

I was having them with my second due - June 25th! My doctor said to increase potasium, and also dairy. Plus to strech your legs out. I increased my potasium for a couple of days and and make sure I drink milk and that has helped. I haven't had one in almost 2 weeks!

I would try to up my intake of water
when I get leg cramps it is because I am dehydrated. I also would add some potassium you may low. Good Luck :)T.
I had that with my first pregnancy and found it to be from a lack of water and potassium. I started eating a banana before bed and drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Best of luck!
That's something I've struggled with periodically through my life. I'm allergic to milk so have it whenever I'm not getting enough calcium or potassium. Bananas and soy milk have helped and whenever I start to get those symptoms I just increase those 2 things and the cramping goes away. good luck. Hope it is as easy for you to get rid of them because they hurt!!
I have always heard it is from a lack of potassium...here is a great chart for vitamins in fruit: http://www.healthalternatives2000.com/fruit-nutrition-cha... ...things like bananas, avacados and kiwi fruit have high amounts of potassium and fiber, which is another pregnancy problem!! Also try stretching your legs frequently...i had this problem a lot during pregnancy and know it can be so painful!
I had weird things like that when I was pregnant. I saw a chiropractor and it helped a ton. I went to A. Abrams clinic in White Bear Lake. They specialize in children and pregnant women. I would give it a try.
