I read in a magazine that one mom placed a maxi pad inside the diaper, seems like it should work. A little pricey, though. You could also try the next larger size of diapers since they're bigger.
This is a brand new problem for us. My daughter has been waking up with her front soaking wet. Her diaper is filled to the brim and (I guess) is overflowing. This has only started since we began putting her to bed an hour earlier. Should we try changing her during the night? Restricting her drinking (I really hate to do this)? Any other ideas out there??
Thanks for all of the responses. We tried double diapers, but she leaked, again (much less, but a leak is a leak). I bought Huggies for Overnight and they are great (they go as low as 3). Thanks so much for the suggestions.

Buy one pack of diapers that are one size up and use them for night. That's what we've been doing forever and it has worked out really well.
Try going up one size in diapers. That should work. At least for a little while. Or, try diaper doublers.
when that happens to us with our son, I just buy the next larger size diapers and use them for bedtime. A simple solution that doesnt' involve limiting his fluid intake. Fluids are important!
We have the same problem, and use Huggies Overnight diapers with our son. I saw someone mention the diaper inserts and said they're less expensive than overnights, but we found that using an insert (which is cheaper on its own) with the Pampers Cruisers made the entire diaper more expensive (per diaper) than buying a pack of overnights. If you don't use cruisers it could be cheaper to buy the doublers, but if saving money is an issue for you then make sure you find out the price per diaper for each option. Both ways keeps our son dry all night, so we use the cheaper option of overnight diapers.
Two things: Get huggies overnight diapers, they really do work better, and if she's getting close at all to the next size, bump her up one. I did this with my son, it makes all the difference!! Good luck!!
We had the same problem and changed to overnight diapers. We haven't had a problem with leaking since. Good luck.
J., could it be the brand of diaper you are using? I don't have girls so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. We tried all kinds of diapers before finding the right one for each of our boys. One brand worked great for one boy but not the others. And we found that the more expensive ones were not the best ones to keep them dry all night. Maybe a bigger/smaller diaper would work better?
I'm with you on not wanting to decrease her intake of fluids.
Good Luck to you.

1) go up a size at night, which is what I do
2) start using Huggies Overnights. They have a size 4 at BRU, otherwise its size 5's in the grocery store
3) my grocery store sells Diaper Doublers, which look like a big maxi pad that you put inside the diaper
J.,
You may want to try a large size for bedtime or try the overnight diapers, I have never used them but I have heard frm other moms they work great.
I was having the same problem with my now 2 year old grandson. After dinner we try to limit his fluid intake and when I put him to bed I only give him a small amount of water in his sippy cup. also, I started using Huggies Overnight diapers at bed time. It seems to do the trick.
I would suggest maybe stop her liquid intake about 30 mins. before bedtime and change her diaper right at bed time. I have had that problem in the past with my daughter. I always change her right at bedtime so she will have a dry diaper. It also matters what type of diaper you use. Huggies are really good. I am using luvs right now and they aren't as good but I have went to a cheaper diaper hoping my daughter will want to potty train sooner than later. Diapers aren't cheap for sure. Anyhoo. Good Luck

for night time maybe try a bigger diaper.
The same thing started happening to my son at about that same age. I started buying overnight Huggies diapers, and we have had no more problems. My son sleeps 11-12 hours a night and drinks a lot before bed and all day long really.
My son had the same problem. I started using diaper inserts ... they kind of look like a long maxipad but are not the same material. They are cheaper than buying the overnight diapers (like $3 for 30 inserts at Babies R Us) and I find they work wonderfully.
My friend and I both had the same problem right about the time our girls turned one. Try the night time diapers. They are expensive but worth every penny.
Hi there! Same thing happened to me, my son's diaper was always wet in the morning (sometimes waking him up at night) and having to change the whole bed, etc. I'm sure you know!
Anyway, try buying a pack of bigger diapers, like size 5 or 6, so it can hold more overnight. Only use it for the night, use the regular size for during the day. That really helped me, we use size 6 for my 20 month old and it holds so much more!
Diapers dot com has diapers for a pretty good price in bulk, if you haven't heard about them.
Best wishes Mom!

We had a similar problem with our son. Whenever he would soak through a diaper we'd move up a size. Now, we use nighttime diapers for bedtime because he takes a sippy cup full of water to bed with him.
Hi J.,
Barring any medical problems, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Talk to her doctor of course, just to rule out the usual urinary culprits but if everything checks out ok, just try doubling up on diapers at night and/or use a cloth diaper or a pull-up over the disposable to soak up any extra that leaks out.
I wouldn't try to change her at night. At this age, they can get so wakeful if they're stimulated in any way at night. They're at the really-curious-hate-to-sleep-because-I-might-miss-something-fun stage. My youngest son is also 15mo :).
Just out of curiosity, which brand of diaper do you use? Not all diapers are created equal in the absorbency department. I used Luvs....once....long ago and never will again. The smallest amount of urine and they fell apart scattering absorbent granules all over my house. Anyways, the point is, it may be the diapers themselves. Try a few different brands. I will now only use Huggies. I think they are the best, but find what works for you.
My son has been doing this since he was 9 months old. We just put a second diaper over top of the first one and that works very well to catch any extra liquid, and if it doesn't get used it makes that first diaper change of the day very convenient.
Changing your daughter during the night is not a good idea, because you don't want to mess up her sleep pattern.
I might slowly start moving her drinking up if she is drinking plenty every day, but you want to make sure she is getting enough throughout the day, even if it has to be at night. Moving the drinking ealier just starts to set good habits for later when she needs to learn to be night dry.
Seriously though, double diapering is the way to go, the bulk isnt a problem because its nighttime.
I would go up one size. Buy a small pack and see if it helps.
we went through the same thing!AT night we use bigger diapers for her than the daytime ones. So in the day she wears 4s and at night she wears 5s.
We also change her right before we goto bed (like 11pm or when we goto bed.)
I don't restrict her milk either....
Time for the next size up diapers! I found that solved the problem when my son was about the same age....
I don't know what brand/type of diaps you are using but I would try Pampers Overnights. They obsorb a very large amount of fluid. Our daughter slept all through the night and she is a very heavy drinker and never had a leak with them. I would also try getting a size up in case they might be getting a little small for her. We had to change sizes long before the weight chart said we should have needed to.
I have always used Loves and love them! but I am experiencing the same problem with my daughter. I have tried the next size up diaper during the night and she is fine. i would never restrict her drinking during the day.

We're also fans of the huggies overnight diapers in this house. They really do the trick. Since using them, the only time we've had leaks have been if they weren't put on correctly. I did try the inserts and found that they smelled pretty rank in the morning. We've now used huggies overnights for two kids. I've found that walmart tends to carry the larger packages of them and they seem to be more reasonable than at other stores.
What size diapers is she in? They make overnight diapers in size 5 (I think) and up. That should fix her issue. If she is in smaller sizes then try putting a diaper on that is one size bigger than she usually wears. That could also help. If she isn't waking in the night I wouldn't suggest waking her for a change. If she is then a quick change when she wakes won't hurt anything. Just keep the lights low and avoid talking other that a short reassurance and a kiss and hug.
Good luck!
Both of my kids could soak through a huggies nightime diaper at that age (my son still does), we put a diaper double (thick pad sold at babies r us and giant, relatively cheap) in the nighttime diaper and it seems to help. I also watch how much fluid I give before bed. Since my son still goes to bed at 630, relatively close to dinner, it is a little difficult to limit his fluid, but he will drink his dinner if we let him. So now I give 1/2 cup of milk instead of a full cup.
I had the same problem with my son who is now 21 months old. I use the Huggies Overnight brand in the size for his weight and have had no leaks since.
Pampers Cruisers are the only ones that never leaked for my two boys. You really do get what you pay for and they never leak.
Good Luck :)
Time for a bigger diaper. This is what happened to us. The diaper still fit, but it didn't have night time capacity for our daughter.
Hi, we had a similar problem with my older son. We made a simple night time switch to an Overnight diaper and have had almost no soaked baby or pajamas! We like the Huggies Overnights diapers (has to say overnights - these are NOT the same as the pull up kind). I believe Walmart carries them but you may have to scout out where they are in your area.
