Laundry Stains - Flint,MI

I am the worst with laundry stains. It seems no matter what I do, I can never get anything out. Currently I have washed a load of laundry (oh yeah and dried) it with lipstick. I had used something in the past that actually took it out, and now can't remember what it was. Does anyone know of anything that would work, or have a handy list of stains and stain removers that actually work?

What can I do next?

Hello-
I use a stain remover that I swear by. You mix 8oz. of blue Dawn dish soap, 8oz. water and 8oz. of ammonia. The smell is quite strong from the ammonia, but it has removed everything from grass stains to formula stains and anything else you can think of. It has even removed stains that went through the dryer that I didn't know about until after the fact.

I use peroxide. I bought a very cute dress from a second-hand store. I arrived home with it to find mildew stains all along the bottom of the dress that I didn't notice when I was at the store purchasing it.

I researched on the internet on how to remove mildew stains and it was recommended to use peroxide since it works like bleach without the damaging and whitening effects that bleach has. The article also recommended to use white vinegar when you're finished using perioxide to stop the fadening process from causing the fabric to lightening up during the stain removal.

Now when my daughter comes home from daycare with dirt and/or food stains, I dump some peroxide right on the stain with a little bit of laundry soap and let it sit (I sometimes rub it in with a brush to make sure the peroxide and laundry soap really gets into the fibers). I will come back to it after a couple of hours and apply more peroxide. You may need to do this a few times depending on the size of the stain and how long it's been there. Then I wash it and I've been happy since.

This even worked on clothes that were washed and dried that had stains that I missed. For those stains that have been washed and dried already, I usually try the peroxide method on a weekend day since I would need to do this process a few times.

Best of luck to you!

Hi K. -

I bought this stuff from meijer called "Totally Toddler" It's worked well for all of my son's messes (he's 8 months old), as well as a few of our stains.

For anything on white, I strongly recommend the chlorox bleach pen. Worked wonders on a squash stain I forgot to prep, and it set in REAL good.... Now it's invisible on the shirt (the shirt was white.... add squash, you do the math!)

I believe my "Totally Toddler" has even gotten Amoxicillan out of one of my son's bibs... and that medicine is BRIGHT pink and stains everything!

Palmolive dish soap w/oxy clean. Sounds odd but it works, palmolive cuts the grease and Oxy clean, I don't know how it helps but it does. I think Dawn make a virson of it too. I'm not sure if it will work on "washed" in stains but it works great on all the others.
Good luck.

Try Greese Lightning. You can find it at Home depot in the cleaning isle. White bottle with black and yellow writing on it. I swear by it for SO many different surfaces. Anything grimy or sticky or oily - it will get it out - kitchen - bathroom - laundry - deep cleaning my lineloeum floors. I used it for exactly what you are needing it for on laundry, except mine was a new tube of chapstick! It's worth a try, because I promise you will love it for around the house.

Not sure if this will work on your preset stain, but I swear this helps keep all the clothes cleaner and your whites brighter without bleach. Oxi - powder, and it doesn't have to be the name brand either - just one scoop in all your loads and you'll truely see a difference. I rarely have to use stain remover, if the stain is tough I'll just let it soak for 20 minutes or so in the detergent with the added oxi powder.............works wonders.

good luck and congratulations..

Hi. I have found a product called Lestoil works fantasically on many types of strains but especially oil-based stains. I had a chap stick accidentally go through the wash and it cleared all the oil stains out of the entire load. I have seen it at a few stores such as Meijer or Buschs. It works best if you place it directly on the stain and let is sit a while before throwing it in the washing machine.

Believe it or not...but Pine sol gets out greasy stains. Just add about 1/2 cup to the laundry with your normal soap.

With White clothes, I agree to use the chlorox bleach pen, works wonders, even on set in stains. As for other stains on colors, I use oxy clean, just put it in the washer with the detergent, or if a stain is real bad, just put some water with the oxy in a bucket or sink and let it soak for a couple hours or so, then wash as normal. Works the best for me. Good Luck!

I have used "Wink Rust Stain Remover" in the past to get out lipstick that had gone through the dryer. WEAR GLOVES!! I ended up in the ER with chemical burns on my fingers that were very painful....but the stuff worked great. I just poured it on all of the stains and rubbed it in then rewashed the clothes.

Good luck!!

You will need something grease remover for the lipstick- I'd go with the Grease Lighting from Depot. Also, call your local dry cleaners and ask them, they may know of something else that takes out lipstick. That's a hard one because of the set stain and the grease.
