I have what seem to be old grease (food) stains on my t-shirts. I have tried all kinds of stain removers. How can I get them out??? Basically, they are circles that are the same color as the shirts, but darker. They have been dried so are set in.
An easy thing (while it's odd...) is to spray Windex on the stain first then use Shout on it. I don't know why it works but it does!!
My sons love using their shirts as a napkin so I know what you are talking about. I love Goop as well, it works great on the stains you are talking about, even after the clothes have been washed and dried- Goop comes in a tube and you can get it at Walmart or any hardware store- I think its primary use is as a hand wash after working on your car, etc. Just rub some into the stain, let it sit for 20 min or so and wash- occasionally I have to repeat if the stain is especially stubborn. I use Zout. It is made to take out grease stains and old stains. I also realized that dryer sheets will do that to certain material. So I didn't use dryer sheets in the dryer with those shirts.
You may have tried this already but I use Oxyclean powder for laundry. I have found the trick that works for me is I take about 2 gallons water and almost 2 scoops of the powder and I use cold water. I let is sit for almost a week (minimum 5 days) Don't mix, stir, poke at it or anything, just let it sit and then I just pull them out - not wringing them out or anything - and throw it into the wash machine with regular detergent. I have gotten out everything I have ever tried doing this - even things that have gone through the dryer many times.

I have found that the best thing for grease/oil stains is Dawn dish detergent. Just pour it right on the stain, let it sit for at least an hour. Then rub it around, rinse with hot water. Pour a little more on the stain, let it soak in and wash (preferably in hot water).
We love Goop! My mom swears by this stuff and does work great on a lot of things but since your stain is already set, that is going to be a tough one. It's really used I think for mechanics to get the grease and stuff off their hands but works great with laundry. We have several around the house!
Dual Power spray n' wash works for everything...
I have noticed that liquid fabric softener does this to some of my clothes. I especially notice it on red shirts for some reason. Sometimes sending them through without softener a couple of times helps.
get a bar of fels-napa soap from Ace hardware, wet the spot and rub the stain, wash in washer
I have tried shout advanced which I like but I am not sure if it would work for those kinds of stains. Also--I have heard part of a Martha stewart show about getting rid of stains so maybe you could find something on here website.

I have the book,"Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean" and I have used this remedy several times: First you need WD-40 and spray it on the old grease stains, this reactivates the stain. Next you take Dawm dishsoap and put it on the WD-40 spots and rub in for about 2 minutes with your fingers. Then you rinse the spots with cold water. The spots should be gone and finally you wash in the washing machine. For fresh grease I use Dawn, rinse, and then use ZOUT stain remover and put in the washing machine. Good Luck!!

Try putting some Dawn dishsoap on the the stains. Let it set for awhile and wash. It might help. Dawn dish soap works great on greasy stains.... but if stain on shirt has been dried all ready it may not come out.... but hey, it's worth a shot! Keep a small bottle of Dawn in laundry room area as a stain remover. I have even done a load of greasy jeans before when my son lived at home and would come back from working on my Dad's farm greasing tractors, changing fuel filters,etc. His jeans came clean when I used Dawn as a detergent!!!!!

The only thing that has worked for me on pre-dried grease is Amway Prewash. It can be purchased on ebay. It has saved a few shirts for us.
