This may be an odd question! My 15-month-old daughter is the messiest eater & bibs only last 2 minutes. I need a detergent recommendation... it has to be "HE" (for High Efficiency machines). I'm currently using Tide and putting a scoop of Oxy Clean powder in each load but stains aren't coming out! I'll also take tips on secrets pre-treating stains! Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much, ladies, for all of the great advice!! I had so many great options. I ended up switching detergents to All Small & Mighty plus putting Chlorox for colors in each load. I also pre-treat stains with Zout or Shout Advanced (in the blue bottle). I'm not sure if it was a combination of all or one in particular, but it worked! My daughter's clothes have been cleaner than ever. I also love the idea of making "Dinner shirts" that I can use... that will be a great craft for us to do (I think I'll let my 3 y.o. do more of the decorating though!) Thanks again for taking the time to respond :)

The ads on t.v. say the new spray called 'resolve' is good.I'm going to try it for my nightshirts I live in.Otherwise,I have found putting hydrogen peroxide on the stain will remove it without bleaching out the fabric. You can give it a try. S. L.

this may sound odd, but i actually make my own detergent. it is fast and easy, fragrance free and low to no sudsing so you can use it in your he washer. it removes more stains than my old one did(all free and clear he) and i even use it as a pre-treatment. just pour it right on the stain. if you want the recipe, just send me a message, or if you are in the Lexington area, i would even make it for you myself.

I don't know about the "HE" part of this. But I use peroxide on many stains and it is amazing. I keep it in a spray bottle and spray it on when it happens, you can see it work and lift it out most of the time. Sometimes it doesn't, and you know then you have to use something else. If anyone has ever used it on blood stains then you know what I'm talking about, it just fizzes and works it right out. If my whites get a little dull, I put a whole bottle of it in the wash and it takes the dullness out. Might be worth a try on baby stains, I don't know. Also a caution I would like to add, I saw one post on Greased Lightening, and yes it works fantastic, but watch it on colors. I have ruined quite a few things on colors with that. Good luck!

i pretreat all my daughters close with shout. as soon as she makes the mess, and again before tossing them in the washer. it works really good most of the time. if she's going to be eating something really messy...like spaghetti, i jsut strip down to her diaper that way i can just give her a bath and not worry so much about her clothes.

go to walmart a but a box of BIZ powder...it is HE efficient and works wonders on stains....especially the ones a 2 yr old can make. i use it all the time on my daughters clothes and 1 box lasts a while for me. i think it is better than oxi clean or shout, anything like that. i also believe that they make it in a liquid now if u would prefer that.

I also have a front loader and have to use HE detergent, I usually will pretreat any stain with ZOUT - I have 2 in soccer, so the grass stains are killer, but the ZOUT gets them out. I discovered it when my youngest was a baby. It will remove set in spit up stains as well. (At least it did for me) Good luck!

I have great luck with Dreft spray to pre-treat stains and Dreft detergent for the regular laundry. I also have very good luck with Method detergent as both a pre-treater and in the wash. But the best thing I did for stains was I started using child-sized t-shirts as bibs. We call them bib-shirts in our house. Sometimes the neck is a little big and leaves a gap so I will put a bib on underneath the shirt (harder for little ones to get off). The t-shirt has short-sleeves but because they are big they cover long sleeves on my kids. You can buy a few cheap t-shirts at target or kmart or walmart. I have ones with fun designs on them, not just white, so the kids think they are fun to wear. We also use them for painting projects. And I don't care how stained they get.

I swear by Vivid color-safe bleach for anything that isn't white-- I have soaked things in it and then scrubbed and washed and it always works....

i keep a spray bottle with a scoop of Oxy diluted in water under my kitchen cabinet. that way, when a spill of staining proportions occurs, i can instantly spray it. clorax has a color safe HE bleach that is wonderful also.
i use the triple concentrated Wisk and that has worked well.

I use Tide with bleach and pretreat my stains with spray Shout. It kept my oldest's clothes in good shape for my youngest. I also always used cold water. I was also in the military and sometimes used peroxide to remove tough stains from summer whites.

You can try using some Mean Green on the stains. It is wonderful for everything. It really works with stains on clothes. You can get it at the Dollar General store for really cheap. And it comes a spray bottle. Well good luck and I hope this works for you.
