We have been having trouble getting out dd's clothes clean after she has an accident. They actually look clean but they are less-than-fresh smelling. It doesn't matter how often we clean them they still smell foul. Please, if anyone has any tips on how to make their children's clothing smell fresh after they have a potty accident I would greatly appreciate them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your responses. The most common suggestion was to use baking soda and white vinegar. I used them and was amazed at the difference in the laundry! Everything came out smelling like roses. lol. Well, not exactly but pretty darn close. Thanks again for the suggestions! You saved me a bundle on clothes.

I dilute a small amount of odorban from Sams Club into my clothes for that reason. I also use it for pets in the house when they have accidents and it prevents them from using that same spot again. For staining I still would continue to use shout or oxyclean for babies on the clothes where the accident took place.

You may like it and then you may not. Also, at the Whole Food Store there is something a friend of mine uses instead because of being an Environmentalist - Zaines.

Try putting some baking soda (1/2 to 1c) in the wash with the detergent then add white vinegar (1/2 to 1c)during the rinse cycle. If the clothes are very messy to start with, run a cold water quick rinse before your wash cycle. This is how I used to wash cloth diapers and it continues to work with toddler clothes. If the clothes smell weird when you open the dryer, that means you need to adjust the amounts of detergent, baking soda or vinegar. I always use a little less detergent than recommended on the bottle and also make sure you're not overloading the machine. The clothes should be free to agitate properly.
Good luck.

The only thing I found that worked was to pre-soak the items it Oxy-Clean before washing. Make sure you soak in the hottest water that the clothes can take. Then, wash as usual. That got both types of accident smells out!
Hope this helps!

I use cloth diapers and have the same problem. Adding Borax along with you detergent and using a pre-soak with hot water works great! It also works great for other clothes that retain odors like shoes.

Good luck!

I would try to pre-soak the items in Oxy-Clean before washing, using the hottest setting possible. That stuff is great, it even gets out hard stains!

Hi K. i am a mother of FIVE. Of course I have tried every thing when it comes to laundry. But I have found only one line of products that fit the bill even when it comes to my recent toddler poopie pants! The products line is safer healthier without chemicals that cause allergies. Go to www.saferforyourhome.com and take a peak, the products make all the diiference in the world for cleaning. The laundry freshener is also a cleaning booster for dirty laundry but is smells wonderful without perfumes!

I can help you shop on line and explain any questions about the line of products because I use them and share the info with others from home! Feel free to contact me to get details or visit my site at www.healthy-us.com

Have you tried using vinegar? Vinegar is a natural deodorizer. I use it with my towels, especially the kitchen towels and wash cloths. You can either run the clothes through the 'soak' cycle in the washing machine or just put them in the sink - a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of vinegar for a load of wash works just fine. In fact, this is also how you can get rid of the moldy smell in clothes that sat in the washing machine overnight, too.

Hope that works for you. Good luck!
