For those of you who have children in Day Care. Is there any extra services provided for your children like dance classes, tumbling, or anyone that comes to your day cares? I am thinking about starting a business that provides to children in day care. However, I would not get paid from the day care but from the parents. I was wondering are parents willing to pay extra twenty to thirty a month for their children to have a gymnastics class or dance class come to them?
I am in the market for day care at the moment. And I've noticed that most which I've called already offer (included) gym class or dancing or art/music.
But if it weren't included, I'd be willing to pay an extra $20-$30 a month... How many classes per week/ month would that entail?
Would you be licensed/bonded?
Our day care contracts with companies to have teachers come in for certain activities.
Our 3.5 year old does a weekly class called jump bunch - it's basically a PE class that we end-up paying for. I believe we pay ~$30/month for him to do it.
They also have a dance class, but one of the teachers said she'd not recommend it. So, we opted to enroll our daughter in a private dance class instead.
We don't go to a fancy day care provider, just one licensed with the state and close to home, so I'm guessing these activities are relatively common.
At our daycare, we have something called "Jungle Bus." Basically, a converted school bus that has different kinds of equipment on it. One week they may work on a trampoline, another week on somersaults, etc. They take the kids in classes according to their age group. They come once a week, charge $38 per month. I think most of the kids participate, though they are not required to. It seems quite popular, and I know my son loves it. They also send home a sheet each week that tells what the activity was and things you can do at home with them.
My daycare does it, but only if enough kids sign up. I know that they had some soccer classes etc., but it seems that I am the only one willing in my son's class as he was the only one signed up for some music classes. Therefore, they didn't get to do it.
I worked at a daycare in Mustang before my daughter was born 3 years ago. We had people come in for different PE type classes, music lessons, and dance classes. The kids loved getting to do that special thing. :) I'm sure some smaller daycares and home daycares would love to have a similar opportunity if you notice the larger ones already have those classes set up at daycares near you. :)
At my daughter's day care they have done ballet, tumbling, munchkin music and dinosaur school. My daughter really loved ballet and it was $30 a month and alot of children participated. They did that every week for like 8 weeks. She didn't come back this year because she had a baby. You might call Crown Heights Child Care. Sonya Davis is the Director and she is always looking for fun new things for the kids and most of the parents are willing to pay extra.
I have a childcare/preshool. I have a music teacher come once a week and in the summer I have a swimming teacher come 2 times a week. The parents pay extra for these activities.
In this area, many daycares have excercise programs that they include with the tuition cost (approx $30 a month). Its geared towards teaching these young toddlers and preschoolers how to eat heathly and excercise (light). Also many daycares don't have the necessary space for a dance or tumbling class.
Would a parent pay extra? That really depends. Some daycare are so expensive that most parents aren't willing to shell out that addt'l cost for their 2-3yr old to tumble or dance for 30 minutes. Besides, at that age, most toddlers don't have the attention span.

In todays economy I don't think I would plan on being totally dependant on that type of business. I know of a child care center in Enid that has a whole room set aside for lessons like you are talking about but only the parents who are affluent can afford that on top of child care fees. In Norman I would only target Child Care Centers that cater to higher economic groups. I know that sounds bad but the truth is that child care is expensive and almost everyone employed can qualify for state assistance for child care.
Call every child care center listed in the yellow pages or go to okdhs.org and look up all the child care centers and give them a call. Ask/poll the directors what they think. If someone had called me at my center I would have truly told them that I felt NONE of my parents would have been able to afford that, and that if they did that they were going to a dance studio or gymnastics facility for the lessons.
Along with Soccer, Baseball, T-Ball, etc...many parents are limiting activities that they have to manage time to take kids to them too so you will find a few but will it be enough to support your lifestyle?
Keep researching this opportunity, if you are working a regular job you could add a few students at a center or two and work it into your schedule just to pick up a few dollars and then gradually build a clientel and eventually go part time then quit except for this work. When my children were small they went to Kindercare for a few months. We paid an extra $15 a month per child for computer class. i think they spent like 20 minutes a week on the computer learning stuff like the mouse etc. the kids liked it they felt "big" and it was cheap for us. of course that was about 18 years ago.
I know my daycare had two different groups coming at one point and time. It did seem like the parents were paying the extra money. I think because of the convenience also. Instead of having to bring their child to you, you come to them. Good luck in your business venture.
I work at a day care. We have a lady come once a week and does computer class with the 3 years and up. She has about 10 kids from our center. She brings in laptops with children's games. She teaches the kids about the parts of the computer and how to use the mouse. She charges 28 dollars a month. I hope this helps you.
I would love that! However, it seems like the logistics may not work. I'd almost rather you come get them and take them to a studio or something, unless you feel confident that the supplies/equipment you need are mobile enough to bring along with you. I am intrigued, though!
My daughter wasn't in daycare but I took her to dance and gymnastics. I definitely would have paid the extra for her to get to attend those classes if she had been enrolled in daycare. It's a great idea!
