okay i know this shldnt be hard, but im trying to find someone who makes cakes... im obviously not typing the right thing in my google search, which is more than puzzling, because to my friends i am the google search-guru.. unfortunately, i cant seem to help myself... my daughter loves dogs and picked out doggy decor for her party and the only cute doggy cake i've found is at publix and is one size only and wld only feed half of the kids and none of the adults.... outside of buying three cakes, any suggestions? i cant seem to find the people that I KNOW are out there that create/decorate cakes from home (and publix, while they have awesome cake, has too many copyright guidelines, cant change colors, and most of all cant double the size in this situation). any recommendations? [oh, and reasonable prices preferred!]
thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

I don't know where you live to recommend one for your area. But if you went with the publix cake, you could always just do a sheet cake or cupcakes as the extra cake needed. Then you could customize the colors to what you want. Good luck! And happy birthday!

I know of a few places all in North Atlanta. Not sure where you are located, but here are the websites for 2 of our favorites:

www.partyartonline.com
www.rhodesfamilybakery.com

Not sure what you are searching, but I found these by searching bakery and then the city I'm in (ie. bakery roswell). You may also want to try yellowpages.com, type in your zip code then search bakery.

Hi T.,
A friend of mine has a cake and cupcake business from her home, and they're YUMMY! Her name is Consuela Dambrino and her website is www.auntreds.com. Her contact info should be on there. You can tell her that J. Lau referred you if you decide to call. Good luck!

I am really considering making the cakes myself for my sons 2 bdays, nothing crazy hard just probably a couple of sheet cakes and adding figures on top to decorate. My sis in law just did my nephews cake and did sheet cakes and added trucks on top for his monster truck party and crushed chipsahoy cookies to look like dirt.

here are some ideas

What if you just buy a non-decorated cake from Publix and some little plastic or stuffed dogs to put on it? Then she can keep the toys to play with.

I currently am in culinary school for baking and pastry. I do a lot of practicing and cake decorating at home. I found a fabulous store in Tucker, GA. It has all kinds of cake pans in different shapes and characters. You pour the batter in the pan and bake. It will come out the shape of the pan and then you can decorate it however you want. They also have all types of cake decorations and toppers. Just in case you were considering doing it yourself here is their website http://www.cakeart.com/store/default.asp

they even sale already pre-made colored butter cream icing

hope this helps

There are bakers and bakeries all over Roswell and Alpharetta area. I know one down from Trader Joe's and Petsmart. There is another one in the triangle of Rucker rd / Arnold Mill (Houze) / Crabapple rds in Roswell. I use yahoo to find local places. On the main Yahoo page click on Yellow Pages.Put your address or zip code and search bakeries. Once it pulls up a list, it pulls the sponsered businesses. Click on distance tab or name tab. I have had great luck with Yahoo.

Good luck on the Birthday!

Hi T.,
You didn't mention when you need the cake or what part of town your in but I am in Suwanee/Buford area (actually Sugar Hill) and I have started doing cakes for family and friends. I have fun doing it more than anything. I have some pix if your interested as well as I can get you some references, and being a mom and understanding how the cost of birthday parties (and other parties too) add up I try to keep my prices within a budget and affordable, it's suppose to be a fun day not a stressful day. If you want some pix just email me and I am happy to send you some! Good luck and HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE GIRL! ;-)

My son's martial arts studio held a small festival several weeks ago, and one of the booths set up was by a man who ran dreamtimecakes.com. He had some sample of his cakes, and my boys kept going back to his table over and over. I had to take them out of the room, but not before I had a sample myself of both flavors, too, and they were... absolutely delicious!!! They both had a buttercream frosting that was out of this world. My kids mooched so much that I'd like to send a little business his way. (If you do, tell him it's a referral from the Budokan festival)

And he specializes in 3-D cakes shaped like football helmets, or a convertible car or whatever else you can think of. Not sure how $$$, but since he doesn't have a storefront, it's gotta be less expensive than some place like Darcy's Cakes (the one Jessica mentioned that's next to Trader Joe's and Pet Superstore.) My husband got me one there for a birthday, not big, enough to serve 8, and I think it was around $35. That was not custom, either, just off the shelf, although it was pretty.

And the bakery Jessica mentioned on Crabapple and Rucker is called "Alpine Bakery" - also quite delicious, but I don't think they do custom ones. They make lots of cakes for restaurants - they aren't done on the premises, but in a big warehouse bakery up in Dahlonega or something. That's better if you just want to buy a fancy restaurant style cake, (but you want to buy a whole one.) Kinda expensive, too.

(By the way, this is kinda in the Roswell/Alpharetta/Crabapple area)
