Kidney Lesions

Hi everyone. I was recently being treated for a stomach ulcer. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound to make sure I didn't have gall stones. The u/s showed my gall bladder ok, but there was a "spot" on my kidney. I had to go for a CT Scan which showed that the spot was a lesion. My doctor told me it's nothing to worry about and I should go back for an u/s in a year. I looked up lesions and I see tumors, cancer, etc. If the dr says it's nothing to worry about, then why would I have to get it checked in a year? I am thinking about seeing another doctor to get another explanation, but I was wondering if anyone ever heard of it or has it. My mom died from cancer so I am naturally paranoid when I hear of "spots" of any kid. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maybe the doctor suggested a follow up on it just to be safe. You will certainly feel better once your stomach ulcer is healed .. moms naturally worry .. with so many people needing your love and attention. Look at ways to improve you diet, and to maybe relieve any stress through exercise. And pray about it ...

Hi
I definitely would go for a second opinion with a kidney specialist since it doesn't sound like the doctor gave you an idea or explained to you adequately what the "lesion" was. It might turn out to be nothing....but it would make you feel better and not make you worry for a whole year. I would bring the actual CT scan films and any other related imaging not just the reports with you to your visit so that the specialist can look at them. Remember that the reports of films are just a radiologist's opinion - they are not always accurate in their assessment of films. I hope this is helpful.

Definitely get a 2nd opinion and also ASK the doctor any questions that are on your mind. Cancer can have genetic factors so you are not being paranoid.

Hi J. I am a CAT Scan Tech. It is very common to sometimes have cysts on the kidney. The word lesion thou would have me worried. For your own piece of mind. I would possibly see a nephrologist
( a kidney dr)just to make sure, especially if you have family hx of cancer. Good luck
