Stride Rite has narrow shoes. We always had to go there for my shoes because my feet are so small.
My dd has very narrow feet and I would like to try shoe inserts that might take up the extra space in the shoe so her foot doesn't move around. She was resorting to wearing shoes that were too small and she got an ingrown toenail which got infected. So, we have to wear shoes that are a little larger. We've tried thick socks, but those sometimes bunch up and get uncomfortable. My dd wears about a 13 small child shoe.
I've seen some inserts that are too expensive...any other recommendations?

If we're talking tennis shoes, there is a different way to lace them so that the shoe will be more snug on the heel.
Spend the money on the e pensive ones. I am sure you know how it feels to have on shoes that do not fit well. Very uncomfortable. Do you want her to be miserable all day just to save a few bucks?
Narrow feet need to be treated just the same as wide feet; by getting shoes that fit correctly. It stinks to have to have to shell out the additional money for kid's shoes but do it. Her feet need to develop correctly. You don't want her to have a lifetime of foot issues because you were trying to get her to wear shoes that didn't really fit.
In case you are in a pinch or must have a specific shoe, any shoe insert should work. I have tried all different types of inserts and all that matters is that they feel good. I can't stand the $300 inserts that the doctor made from the molds of my feet.
It should work just fine. My daughter grows about every 6 months and I pull the inserts out and loosen the laces of her skates to give her more room. The opposite should work if you are not able to get her a narrow shoe.
Podiatrist is my suggestion.
I buy my daughter Nike shoes (about 30-40 bucks at outlets) they are narrower and they fit her great. I spend money on her shoes nothing is worse then a bad fitting shoe
