Kid Friendly Activities in Myrtle Beach, SC

I have done a few searches online but I am looking for some real life recommendations from parents that have taken their kids to Myrtle Beach.

We are going to Myrtle Beach one upcoming weekend and will only be there from lunchtime Friday until mid-late afternoon on Sunday. We have a general/tenative plan to at least visit the beach a few hours, check out the Ripken Experience (as in visit it briefly), and possibly go to the aquarium. These plans are very flexible.

What are some activities or sites you would suggest we do? or that you think a 6 yr old girl would really enjoy?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

For those that recommended Benjamin's Calabash, do they have good 'non seafood" items too? I ask because I can't have seafood and my daughter only likes fish sticks. Hubby and adult son love seafood though. ***We are back from SC and we had a great time. My son is interning down there for the summer so we visited him and his "employer" has a great play ground on the premises so my daughter enjoyed that. We did a helicopter ride for the whole family (something we knew hubby would love), the beach and the condo's various water facilties, then Barefoot Landing to visit the animals at Preservation Station (just a family day), and on Sunday we went to the Ripley's Aquarium where my daughter met a "live mermaid" (our son was working so he didn't join us on that one but he's going to go when his girlfriend comes to visit him). Unfortunately, the place his co-worker recommended for dinner was not something my daughter or I cared for but was ok...(his co-worker is in hospitality and does that all the time...think he just forgot about us having a 6 yr old too).

Myrtle Beach is supposed to be a world capital for miniature golf (or putt-putt, if you prefer to call it that). Check that out. I haven't been there myself but when in S.C. last year, I heard a lot about how MB has many cool and fun miniature golf courses. And the courses are usually open very late in the evenings in summer!

It's been a long while since I've been to Myrtle Beach, but I loved it.

I will say, be sure you go have dinner at Benjamin's Calabash. It's an awesome seafood buffet. My kids LOVED eating there. :-)

Hit the boardwalk and have some ice cream. Our kids were quite content at the beach- we stayed in North MB, so it's a bit more mellow.

I second the recommendation of Benjamin's Calabash. It was really good!

Broadway at the beach has a lot of shopping and entertainment. They have a Magiquest, theater, mini golf courses. There is also a small amusement park. A lot of the resorts have kids clubs as well so make sure you check into those as well. We go to Myrtle Beach almost every year and love it. You may find yourself spending lots of time on the beach so either pack some sand toys or buy them there. They are pretty cheap at most gift shops and grocery stores.

Sounds like you've got a pretty full schedule for one full day and 2 half days!

Okay, so we went last year, and we rode the giant ferris wheel on the Boardwalk. But, overall, I felt that the boardwalk was a bit trashy, and very overrated. But, the ferris wheel was fun. Also, there is a ton of mini-golf.
There was actually an indoor outdoor shopping/entertainment place about 0.5 mile inland from our beach hotel (we stayed at Caribbean Resort). I felt it was VERY reminiscent of Downtown Disney, and we were really pleased with the amount of things to do there! There was a theater, lots of specialty souvenir shops, a boardwalk (different from the "strip" boardwalk with the ferris wheel), and just different fun places to eat, etc. Worth checking out, in my opinion.

Mostly, we just enjoyed our resort (and it was truly awesome) but I wasn't overall impressed with MB. We would go back again, though, because the resort was so awesome!
