Hello, My husband has mentioned a couple of times that he'd like a Keurig Coffee Maker for his desk at work. I know nothing about these things. I just looked a few up and found that there is a Mini machine, that sounds great because it is smaller and would fit on a desk. The description mentioned that it only uses the K-cup Pods??? Are those just as easy to find as the others? Any helpful advice?

Thanks,

M.

You can find the k-cups almost everywhere. A coworker has one on her desk. She has a reusable cup that she uses to save money buying the pods. She just puts in regular coffee and can wash it out. I think she said it was a package of 2 or 3 so she can fill them to be ready to use.

The mini uses regular K-cups. K-cups are pretty much sold everywhere. There are even other brands out there (Cuisinart, Mr. Coffee) who now make single serve brewers that use K-cups. :-)

I have the Keurig Platinum at home and it's about 2 years old now. Love it.

I love it because I'm not a huge coffee drinker and making a pot of coffee is a waste. I love the variety of coffees I have on hand as well.

It has been great with guests and I'm currently looking for my model to send to my dad because he loved mine so well. Unfortunately, I don't think my model is made any longer so I'm looking for one the most similar to it.

I stay stocked up on coffee and tea varieties -- k-cups. I do have a special pod that you can put your own coffee in and use as well. We've never used it. Usually a package will say if the coffee can be used in a keurig. I found some Hawaiian coffee that is the best I've ever had and the pods work just fine in my machine.

You can find the k-cups at the grocery, target, staples and about everywhere on sale from time to time. I don't think they are any pricier than a good ground coffee you buy at the store.

I've had no issues with cleaning mine. Just follow the directions. I use white vinegar and you let it sit a couple of hours before dispensing it out and flushing the machine.

Good luck!!! We've been happy with our purchase. We got ours at Costco.

We have a larger one than the mini (but not a 2.0) and I love it so much more than the old coffee pots. We have tried about every brand of coffee pod out there. You can also get tea, cider and cocoas. I really like the kauai coffee pods!. My son has the mini and you have to keep in mind with the smaller machine you do have to add water each time you make a cup as it does not have the reservoir the other ones do. We always use filtered or spring water in the machine to cut down on mineral buildup. You use the k-cup pods in the mini and you can find them everywhere from aldi to cvs to the keurig store online. You can always check the box to make sure they are kcup compatable, but most are, like mccafe, starbucks, gevalia, folgers, etc. There is a company, Rogers family coffee company that makes organic and biodegradable cups. Also hills brothers and some others now make cups that are stored in a foil bag rather than individual plastic cups and they are much more environmentally friendly. If you get the mini be sure you do not get the kcup 2.0 cups as they will not work.

I think the convenience factor is very appealing. However, I've read many reports about the extreme difficulty in cleaning them since the insides are not accessible to you. There are also significant concerns about the plastic pods. They are a massive environmental problem, coming close to the huge problem with plastic water bottles clogging landfills. Moreover, there are health concerns about putting boiling water through them and into your cup and then into your body.

We bought one for my mother when she had a major shoulder operation, thinking she could make coffee one-handed for 3 months. But the other concerns have rendered it useless and a big expense for nothing.

So do your research before you make the financial commitment to the machine and the disposable pods.

I find it's much easier and much cheaper to make a pot of coffee at home (glass pot, reusable mesh filter that goes in the dishwasher). If I'm in a meeting, I take a glass-lined carafe (like an old-style Thermos but more attractive) that keeps the remaining coffee hot for hours. Even if I don't drink the last cup in the carafe, it's so much cheaper in the long run.

I bought a Keurig mini brewer three weeks ago. I am a coffee snob and drink coffee all day long. I have used the kcups and the regular filter in my new machine. Also, I use bottled water as suggested by the manufacturer. With that being said, I dislike my Keurig and so does my husband. We have tried various brands of coffee in this machine and the coffee tastes terrible!
In fact, we put the machine away and broke out our old Keurig knockoff which is a Family Chef single serve coffeemaker that we bought for $35 plus tax at Family Dollar. This coffeemaker makes way better coffee and we have owned it for five months thus far. Also, I had to call Keurig after a few days because their machine would not work since the needle jammed.

Just my experience fwiw.

Our Keurig uses the K cup and I like having it make one cup at a time with no water storage.

I can always have fresh water each time. I can pour the water in, snap in a cup, then put my cup under it and have hot lemonade, hot apple cider, hot cocoa, and more.

I believe you can use any 'brand' of pod that you want. They even have reusable ones that you can put your own grounds in and use over and over.

We had one and LOVED it because we both just drink one cup each and making the whole pot seemed like a waste. But then ours broke and we went back to Mr. Coffee because it seemed like it was the same cost regardless or not much difference. Except our Mr. Coffee doesn't have an auto shut off and I keep forgetting to shut it off so it burns. lol

I did like the Kcups because I got a box at Costco that ended up being about .35 each and was a variety. You can also have tea and hot chocolate and a ton of flavors. If expense isn't a concern, I would definitely get it for him and perfect timing since Father's Day is coming. Good luck.

We have a Keurig at work - office provides the machine, but not the cups/pods. Most people here went on Amazon and bought re-usable cups that they can refill with their favorite coffee.

Love love love my Kuerig. I use ground coffee in the cafe cups. Pods got to be way too expensive because my husband and I have 2 cups each morning then during the winter maybe a cup in afternoon

Love it! I don't drink coffee; I'm a tea drinker, and it's fabulous for that. My husband loves the coffee, my oldest son drinks tea with me, and my youngest drinks hot chocolate. It's perfect for us since we all like different drinks. I take tea K-cups to work and there is a Keurig there that I can use. It's great! I think it would be a wonderful Father's Day gift for your husband. :)

I got my DH a Hamilton Beach FlexBrew machine for his office. He likes it a lot, and it uses pods, grounds or K-cups, and it was more in-budget. If you get a K-cup brewer, get him one of those reusable cups to save landfill waste.

We have the big Keurig, my sister has the small one.

I disliked the waste and cost of the pods - even though we could find on sale quite regularly. I found the ones I really liked were the BOLD ones. Then it made a really good cup of coffee.

So we got the little mesh cups you fill with your own coffee. You just chuck out the grounds and wash it each time. That way you can use your own nice coffee and save, and less plastic. Win win.

Since I'm usually the one home with it, a pot of coffee kind of went to waste, so that was the appeal for me. I also make cups of tea with it (just use it to make the hot water) and put tea bag in my cup. Not the best but fine. I'm not fussy.

Our water doesn't stand too long so I'm ok with the big one. And we've had to clean it out. It's pretty gross in there. We had no idea until something malfunctioned and my husband said "ya, we need to clean this more...".

The mini one is perfect if you just want the odd cup and don't mind adding water each time.

There is a type of pod that didn't work for us - I can't remember which machine it was for though. My husband brought them home by mistake once. They were flatter. I'm guessing so long as they have that cup shape they would work ...

Good luck :)

I have a single cup brewing Kuerig. Love it! And it takes anything that's in a KCup, even if it's not sponsored by the official brand.

I don't know about finding the pods, but we have a Keurig here at our office and I HATE it. I use the regular coffee pot because I get tired of standing there waiting for my coffee - much more efficient to make a pot in the morning and then just pour. Also, I found that sometimes the Keurig made me a full cup of coffee and sometimes I only got a half of a cup. It was just too much trouble for me. Also, I find those K-cups of coffee to be much more expensive.

My daughter and son-in-law have a Keurig -- I'd rather drink water. I like strong coffee and the Keurig coffee is way to weak for my taste. It's awful.

I drink espresso/latte's. The Keurig is a little weak for me and too strong for my coworker. It works well for a second cup when I need one.

I just bought a box of the pods. Most of them fit.

i suppose i'm a luddite. i don't get the appeal.
from an environmental standpoint they're awful. they've addressed that by making the filters you can wash and to which you add your own coffee.......
which is what i do with my coffee maker.
i keep reading 'but a full pot of coffee will go to waste.'
so don't make a full pot.
?
most days during the week i only allow myself one cup of coffee. so that's the amount of water and coffee i put in my coffee maker.
why would i need a separate machine for that?
this modern world!
