Keeping a Cat Out of Our Yard

Does anyone know if there are products on the market to keep cats out of your yard? We have a cat that's just left to roam the neighborhood and it's started killing mice and birds and depositing the dismembered remains in our yard. I see the cat walk along our back wall frequently, so I'm pretty confident it's the one to blame. I'm getting so tired of my kids telling me there are diced up mice or bird pieces in the corner of our backyard -- gross for them to see and gross to clean up. I want this cat gone.

Thanks for any suggestions ...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the feedback and ideas! The Serial Killer Cat came walking by on our patio as we ate dinner so I quickly opened the door and made a monster noise at it to scare it off. I think I will try a combo of scare tactics and offensive smells to see if I can get it to stay away. Thanks, again!

If you google "cat repellent" or "animal repellent," you'lll find dozens of products, and even home-made recipes using herbs and spices. Here's one type that sprays water when it detects animals within its range: http://www.nixalite.com/scarecrow.aspx

get a big dog :)

It really irks me that dogs must be kept in the yard but cats get to roam free. I have nothing against cats just cat owners that allow their cats outside to use my garden as a litter box, our cars as a place to lounge on, and our yard to dismember animals.

We have always had cats and want them to stay in our yards. My husband has solved this by going up on the roof of our homes and taking a water hose with a powerful sprayer. Each time our cat attempted to leave the yard, he would squirt her. You could do the opposite and each time a cat tries to enter your yard, you squirt it..

Maybe just sitting in a lawn chair and waiting would work..

there are some poppers, like the party poppers, just throw them towards the cat and he'll run away from the noise and never come back. You might have to do this more than once. It will scare it, but not harm it! =) Good Luck!!!

I have the same problem with my lovely neighbor feeding the homeless cats and then the cats decide to spray my house, poop in my garden and pee in my rocks. I have a very big dog, (I do not condone as he has killed 4 cats so far this summer.) I use cayenne pepper and hot pepper flakes and sprinkle around the fence line (or where the cats might be entering) and in your garden. THIS WORKS WELL but you have to sprinkle after rainfall. They do not like the smell of citrus so I still want to try orange or lemon peels.

I'm dealing with this problem now. We have a cat that I think belongs to a neighbor on our street that likes to poop in our side yard everyday! I am so over this cat and I love cats! I tried spraying it with water but not to avail. I'm going to try some of the suggestions listed here. Good luck to you!

There is a spray I used called Fooey, I put it in my flower beds and they have not been back since. I only use it about once every 6 months. You could spray it around your border of your yard. Also if you do use it stand down wind when you spray it and keep you mouth closed. Yucky stuff!!
