Karate or Gymnastics

My daughter is 3 years old. She is very bright and had tons of energy but lately she has been misbehaving and not listening at times. I was thinking of enrolling her in a karate or gymnastics class to help her burn some of that extra energy. I hear either activity can also help with focus and discipline. Which is better? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I was considering karate for my daughter when she was younger but was told by a few diff. parents not to start her in Kartate at to young of an age cuz they get burnt out real quick. One friend of mine is a 45 yr old black belt and she has taught classes and has seen kids start young and in just a year or two they are quitting. She reccomended that I wait til my daughter was older like10 yrs old and she is wanting to do it. But thats just a few opinions. Im sure many kids start young and flourish at it!

But my thought is she would have alot more fun at gymnastics at 3yrs old!!

My daughter is also 3. We tried gymnastics and soccer. She was a little put off by the gymnastics. She LOVES the soccer. We go to soccer tots which isn't team soccer, just skill games. It's great! She is running for a full 45 minutes.

As for the discipline, it teaches her to take her turn and listen to the coach. She's doing great!

I have an almost 7 year old, but we are taking Karate at The Little Gym and it's got tons of gymnastics with it - so he's really getting both in one class and loving it all, so you might want to check that out and she can get exposed to both at the same time. If you are looking for serious karate, this is not the place to go, but if you want her to learn some of the basics, this would be a great place...but she's only 3 so I'm thinking a mixture of things would be good to keep her interested.

Can you let her try both and see which one she likes best? My Goddaughter did a month where she went to both karate and gymnastics once a week and at the end of the month they decided to drop karate and stick with gymnastics. She loves it!

I think she'd do great in gymnastics at ASI in Arlilngton. Both of my kids had Coach Phil in Kids Gym 1 and Kids Gym 2. He's really great with the kids. He makes it fun and teaches them the techniques that they need to know at that age, all while making sure the kids pay attention and follow through on his instructions. It's also a month to month program, versus Little Gym which is by the semester. My daughter did Little Gym and ASI. At the age of 3, ASI is the better choice IMO. Little Gym is more fun and games for the young ones, while ASI is more structured.

Good luck with your choice!
