JFF: Your Kids and Their Crushes

So do your kids have crushes? And do they always for the same type?

My youngest just turned 6 and has had a string of "girlfriends" (at least in his head) for at least two years. They've all been cute with blonde hair. Today he told me that he likes his newest crush because "she has yellow hair and wears skirts." Good thing I'm taken already because apparently I'm not his type LOL.

My 7 year-old-son has friends who are girls but has never "liked" a girl and is afraid of girls who seem to "like" him. He wants nothing to do with that (hallelujah!).

My 13-year-old has always been attracted to emaciated girls with long, straight brown hair. Smart girls scare him.

My 14-year-old girl is like a moth to a flame with boys who are train wrecks...good looking but edgy, troubled, brooding boys from broken homes get her attention time and time again.

So...do your kids fall for a certain "type" again and again? What is/are it/they?

What can I do next?

If my son turns out to be straight... and he marries his type...I know EXACTLY what my future daughter-in-law will look like.

She'll be half asian with long hair and glasses. At least, when he meets her!

The other half of the race doesn't matter to him. Asian/Cauc, Asian/black, Asain/Latino. Since he's slated to be 6'2-6'4, and is mostly nordic... I'll have some beautiful grandbabies. :)

He's gone starry eyed around nearly a dozen of them now. One time, he even walked straight into a brick wall he was rubbernecking so much, and every class this type of girl is in, he gets the biggest crush.

My 8-year-old has had a crush on the same boy for quite a while now, and has developed a crush on his best friend as well. She seems to go for the athletic types. I told her to go for the smart ones!! But she's only 8, we'll see what happens!!

When my youngest came home from Kindergarten, he informed me of his new girlfriend. I asked what her name is and he answered "I don't remember, but she has pretty white boots" They grew up going through school together but never was boyfriend/girlfriend. His daughter is now 5 and has a big crush on a boy in our church who is a senior in high school. It is because he helped her find easter eggs in the easter egg hunt. She also like Justin Bieber, mostly because her older cousin (7 year old) likes him. When my daughter was in 6th grade she liked a senior in High school and he was a great guy. He thought it was sweet that she had this crush on him but she was a bit shy. I remember he came to me one day and said I shouldn't tease her about liking him because she wouldn't even look at him when she was serving in the lunchroom. I went home and said "you didn't even say hi to Jason?" She replied with a sly grin, "No but I gave him extra strawberries" When she grew up and moved out on her own in a different town she started hanging around with bikers and that is the kind of guys she started dating and eventually married.

My six year old daughter keeps saying she likes a boy in school...."her boyfriend" so far it seems like she likes boys who play rough like her and keep up with her...also it looks as though she's like me...she likes brown hair and brown eyes. But she's young...this could change.
