JFF- Kids Names

So reading another name question made me wonder, how did you choose your kids names ? DId you pick a family name? DId you pick the name based on its meaning? Do you think your kids "fit" their names?
My twins are Anthony & Audrey. There are many Anthonys in both mine & my husbands families, as soon as I suggested Anthony for our son my husband agreed that was the name. My son loves to eat, which reminds me a lot of my brother Anthony. My daughters name was much harder, we could not agree on anything. We were watching tv one night and one of the main characters on the show that was on is named Audrey... during the commerical my husband said lets name our daughter Audrey... and I agreed. I think the name is fitting for her. I have a great aunt Audrey who is in her 90's and she is one fiesty old lady... I see a lot of fiesty-ness in my daughter allready at the ripe old age of 1.

What can I do next?

We knew we wanted to go with a Hebrew, Biblical name. Also, one with a meaning that meant something to us. So...we did! I love my son's name!

Both of my kids are named from a movie, however, not the character names. The real names of the two actors. Julia Stiles, and Sean Patrick Thomas. I saw the names scroll on the credits, and they caught my eye. I had my kids names picked out long before I was ever married and pregnant.

I did NOT have any boys names that I LOVED. So my son's father got to name our son because he did have names he loved and that meant something to him.

The first name was his father's best friend who died as a teenager, and he wanted this name, basically, for his dad. My son's middle name is just an odd name that his father always loved and said he would name his son that. Well, I wouldn't allow it for a first name (and I do like the first name he chose), but I happily conceded to it as a middle name, as it means "bringer of peace." And at that time, we needed peace. And he has done just that.

We chose our sons name because we saw it on the way of a ride at Disney's California Adventure Park! Really! We had just found out about the pregnancy and had already had the theme park trip planned so we were discussing possible boy and girl names the entire time. While in the Soaring Over California line, we waited in a room that was covered in information about famous pilots. I was picking out the ones I knew my husband would hate, teasing him, when I saw the name James. I suggested it and it just stuck. We had no idea if we were having a girl or boy until the doctor announced it after delivery, and we were so excited that we were able to use the name we loved so much. As for his middle name, it was my husband's grandfather's name.

My name is S.. I was shocked, amazed, awed, totally stunned, and suprised to find myself pregnant at a slightly older age (34). If your name is S. and you're older and you're suprise is a boy, he just HAS to be Isaac. Plus it means "He laughs" and he does-- all the time (well, except for today, today was tantrum day!)

My son's name is Kole- a friend's dad suggested it and it stuck! We decided to use "K" to match his dad's first initial. We actually left the hospital without a middle name, but a few days later decided on Dillynn. Lynn is my husband's middle name, but we didn't want our child to be Kole Lynn-get it...colon! His brother suggested Dillynn and I really like what it means- Son of the wave, born by the sea. He had a onesie with crabs on it at the time we decided and my husband and I have a dream of moving to the coast and opening up a shrimp shack!! We just felt like it fit!!

Part of me does wish I had named him Kole Mac after my Papaw Mac--My grandparent's had 3 boys, each had 2 girls--one cousin has 2 girls and I finally had a boy! My Papaw is 85 and always jokes about how long it took to get another boy!! He's very proud of his great-grandson!

tyler james~ pulled it out of the air :)

bryce david~ just liked the name bryce, spelled it with a "y" to match ty's. his middle name is his dad's middle name.

devyn andrew~ combo of my brothers david and kevin. again changed the i to a y. andrew is ex's brothers name.

josyah william~ my hubby has always loved that name. found out later its his great grandpa's name. william is hubby's dad's middle name. again changed the i to match the other kiddo's.

shaelynne dayle. since i was little i wanted my daughter to be shyanne. LOVE the name! but i wanted her to have my and my mom's middle name. then realized my dad after 10 grandkids didn't have one named after him. don't like the name robin (rob) so went with his middle name and made it more feminine. tried to figure out have to have my middle name in there and didn't like shylynne... so switched it to shaelynne :)

All of thier names fit them really well. The only one I don't really like is Bryce David because it does' t flow together like the other ones do. But its him and I wouldnt change it even if I had the choice.

I "let" my husband pick out the first names, as long as I liked them enough, and I picked out the middle names. But we both had to like the whole name. After our first was born, I wanted to have the same initials for both of our kids. They are AMK. It really works out well when I am labeling something that might be a hand me down sometime.

My oldest is
Braelyn Keianna. when I was in school there was 2 brothers daylan and jaylan not sure on spelling, but i always thought those were cute name, and then my friend was having a baby, and she said she was thinking of Brayden, so i liked all of them, so I mixed and matched them, and spelled it girly for my daughter. Keianna is what my husband wanted to name her, his uncle had a daughter named quiana and she passed when she was young, so i changed the spelling and gave it to her as a middle name.
My youngest
LaWanda Zhane'. Wanda is my mother in law, dont know where the La' came from, but I told my husband since I gave our oldest her first and him her second, we would trade, so thats what he came up with.. We call her LaLa.. Zhane' pronounced Jah-nay, was a r&b group in the 90's always wanted a daughter named that, its different, but so cute.

Our children's names are...

Elizabeth Asenath
Alice Shire

Elizabeth was our first, and her first name means "consecrated to God." Her second name means "I belong to my father" and is Joseph's Egyptian wife's name.

Alice is our baby, and her name means "truthful" which is a huge issue with us...the truth. Her second name is a variation of the Hebrew word for "song." So, put together, her name means truthful song, which was special to us.

My first daughter was named after my mom "Gwendolyn" i just added an extra n.

My second daughter was named on behalf of my mom, I purchased the house i was raised in while i was pregnant with my second. For the first time in over 20 years since the bulbs had been planted the lily flowers bloomed in my garden. Its like the flowers welcomed me back. I named my second daughter Lilly

Im now pregnant with my third, since my husband kindly agreed to the first two names without even second guessing me i want him to decide this babies name. I get veto power of course but the idea is ALL his. So far we've locked down the name Pearl for a girl and have a few "maybe" names for a boy (Sawyer and Dylan)

I dont know what his sentimental reasoning is for "Pearl" but i love it, and He gets the name "Sawyer" from Tom Sawyer and "Dylan" from Bob Dylan

Ok, My son was named after TWO influencial people to mom and dad ... I got the first name and dad got the middle and it just fit perfectly! Yes, he does fit both personalities of the names given and he LOVES his name so much so you can not even call him a nick name.

One of my nephews was named by his oldest brother and he chose an awesome name. The youngest of my sister's has a family name for a middle name. My only neice (my side) was as well named after family names and is just beautiful. So, it's a mix of what just feels right.

Ty James ~ we had the name picked out before I even got pregnant! Ty Murray is one of our favorite rodeo cowboy's and James is my husband's Dads name.
Ryder Allen ~ we were watching something on TV and a kid gave a shout out to his younger brother "Ryder" and we fell in love with it (didn't know at the time that Kate Hudson had a Ryder) and Allen in my husband's middle name.
Yes, they both fit them perfectly and I still love their names!!

My daughters name is Analeigh (we pronounce it Analee). My husband and I also had a hard time picking out her name, we couldnt agree on anything the other one liked. I watch Americas Next Top Model, and one night he sat down with me to watch it, and one of the girls on the show was named Analeigh. Thats how we got our daughters name and no one else in either of our families has the same name as her. I think her name "fits" her well.

I LOVE learning how people picked their kids' names! We like to go for more classic names, not too common but not "out there". And not spelled "uniquely" either. We wanted to try and use at least one family tie in as well. On my end I like to think of the meanings of names too...my husband not so much.

My 5 year old is Audrey! We already had a middle name -- Eileen, meaning "Light"-- my grandmother's name. Audrey was actually suggested by my husband, who vetoed almost all of my names on my never ending girl name list! He was watching something on Faith Hill and one of her daughters is Audrey. And I believe Audrey is actually her first name and Faith her middle name. A few days later a tv movie on Audrey Hepburn was on and I looked up the meaning--"Noble strength". Then the name seemed perfect, it is classic and not too common and her name would mean "Noble strength" and "light", which was important to me having miscarried our first pregnancy. It seems to be a little more common now, but I still only personally know 1 other Audrey. But I must agree, my Audrey has been spunky since birth! It's definitely a name for an independent, strong willed, yet loving girl and will be so great when she's older too.

Our son is Owen -- my grandmother's maiden name and means "Young warrior". His middle name is Keith which is my father-in-law's middle name and means "of the woods". Didn't like the meaning, but it was a family name. When I was pregnant with him I heard of soo many Owens, I didn't know it was becoming sooooo popular. I worry about him being Owen N. for all his school days, but it has great meaning to me and my husband liked it to, it was our only choice for a boy!

Hoping for #3 soon...and not sure on the name there! But definitely a first or middle name connected with my husband's family.
