so i'm always hiding my snacks from my toddler because he wants to eat everything i eat. Today after dinner (i count my calories) and figured i had 300 calories left so i decided to grab a few chips, i then walked upstairs thinking i was going to enjoy my few chips watching little tv. I then hear my son and husband coming out of the room, where they had been playing, i get up and run to another room and there i am in the dark eating away so that i don't have to share with my boys, mostly my toddler lol. my husband found me, he said he can hear me munching , we both laughed but i find myself constantly hiding snacks from my toddler. he always wants what i'm having and some aren't healthy enough for him. even if i hand him a fruit or veggie while i eat my junk food he will fuss until he has what i'm having. Anyway i shared this with two of my friends and they both told me they do the same hahha... guess i'm not alone

What can I do next?

Yep...all the time!

I think of it as "eat as I say, not as I do". Usually though we don't have a lot of junk food around...so it is usually a healtier snack I'm sneaking I just don't want them to have a snack since it's around dinner time...(seems that is my time of the day for snacking myself).

Nope. I am an adult and I can eat what I want.

I also live alone except for 2 dogs a puppy and a cat. I figure if I leave the catnip alone and never touch the kibble I'm good. :-))

i actually used to do it on purpose!! My gal went through a im not going to eat and I don't care what you do or say spell. But... if I was eating it, here she would come! So I would get all kinds of everything from super healthy to a occasional snack and if I even pretended to eat it she would finish it. Ha ha!! Joke was on her!!
**I got a visual of you sneaking through the house looking for a place to hide and eat chips!! Lmao, thank you!!

Gah. I need to start that, I think.

I do the reverse. HE can have the unhealthy stuff, because he burns it all off. I'm only about 1/10th as active as he is (and not growing), so I have carrots, and he has carrots AND cookies.

Confession... I buy snack he HATES when I don't want to share. Babaganoosh, seaweed, etc.

Totally!! We wait until after our 2 year old is in bed before we eat dessert! If husband is eating something in the kitchen (standing in the door of the pantry) and my daughter is driving me crazy I'll whisper "daddy's eating something!" and she'll run in and demand a bite haha we do it to each other all the time! Even when it's not junk food, sometimes I like to just enjoy eating something by myself because god knows I can't pee, shower, or get dressed in privacy :).

You are lucky to have such a great eater!! If I was in your shoes, maybe I would. But my son is such a picky eater, I want him to see everything I eat. Even if it's "junk" food, the fact that he will try something new is important. The only exception is that he loves chips so if we are having lunch and he does not have chips with his lunch and I do (like with a sandwich) he will make a fuss. Usually all I have to tell him though is that they have dairy in them.

I have to start eating my cereal at night, the Kellogg with strawberries, my toddler loves the strawberries but won't eat the cereal!
So all I have left is a bunch of cereal without berries, I decide to buy her own dry berries...she would still want mine, mine taste more sweet. I don't know why because they suppose to be kind of diet (if they are not diet PLEASE let me believe it!).
So finally I have it! I just eat them when she gets to sleep.
However, I think I am totally unfair, because I do eat her snacks too,
So we try to have healthy snacks so at least is only my conscience that is bad and not my waist line as well.

Yeah, most of the junk stays put away until the kids are in bed. They do get some treats but not everything.

i have my "stash" in my top drawer of my dresser ( on the right side of my computer) and leave the drawer a little open so I can quickly grap it and have it while the kids are out of the room

My husband has his under the stand next to his chair for the same reason.

If they come in in the middle of the chew, we try our best to chew quietly and not be noticed or hide it in our hands so they can't see it.

too funny of a question :)

I do the same. I am smiling and laughing a little as I read your story. Love it. I have a 'stash' that I will wait till the kiddo is in bed or napping to eat. It's hard to hide from both of them. But what's funny is that I forget that I have candies hidden all over the place. The other day I found a Reeces PB Cup and a bag of gummy bears. I didn't eat them at the time. I could go eat them now .... but 1/2 an hour before bed I probably shouldn't. Eh, they'll still be there tomorrow.

added: I am so glad my son is 3, as I let him have 3 of something if he does catch me. 3 gummy bears, 3 minutes of a lolipop, 3 potato chips, etc. My son loves fruit, so doubly good if I am eating the fruit and he is eating the fruit. Two healthy fruit-eaters!

Oh yeah, there have definitely been times where my hubby and I purposely saved our junk food for after the kids went to bed, so we wouldn't be a bad influence. They would never let us get away with eating it and not sharing, lol. :-)

Yes, I sometimes do sneak something I "should not" have -- mostly I just do not want to share, it's the only child part of me coming out. I try to do it only when I will not get caught ie my son is at school but w/ a toddler you do not have that luxury!

I do it but for a different reason---I want my boys to "catch" me. They are picky eaters and will eat a bit more during the day if they see that mommy is eating it. :) I usually do healthy food though with the ocasional treat. Works well for us!

Never did. When my daughter was little, junk food was kept on the top shelf of the pantry and she had tonask for it if she wanted it. I gave her as much as I thought appropriate and she knew that was all she was getting. When she got older I let her help herself with the understanding that I only buy x amount of junk food per payday. If she ate it all before the next payday she would simply be SOL for snacks.
