I've NEVER Had Acne...Now I'm Getting It.

As the title states, I've NEVER had acne. In fact, without sounding too conceited, I've ALWAYS had a near perfect complexion for my whole life. It's even made me feel guilty at times because my younger sister suffered from HORRIBLE acne, and I knew it was hard for her when everyone complimented my skin and when I had no idea what all those medications or creams were for in her bathroom. Well, I had my daughter in Feb 2010, and I havent't had that much of a problem before, but now I'm starting to get pimples and blemishes like crazy! Did this happen to anyone else? Do you know why or how to make it stop? Or worse... if it will even stop.

What can I do next?

A few things enter my mind, and the first is hormonal. Get checked out by an Integrative doctor specializing in hormones. My family's experience with most regular endocrinologists have been less than adequate (long story).

Stress can affect your hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (ie hormones) which may be gently corrected.

Then there is the question of whether your diet has changed since giving birth? Or maybe your body just can't handle foods it used to. After giving birth I found that EVERY single time we ate a high-fat beloved food at our favorite breakfast place I got a huge acne lesion. That one was direct cause and effect, yet I kept reading that food does not cause acne. Confusing, and all I can say is bunk! OK... the food didn't but my reaction to it sure did!

It's hormonal. Talk to your doctor about it.
In the meantime, don't use anything harsh or overly drying. That can make things worse.
Witch hazel is an amazing astringent, it's gentle, cheap, and you can get it at any drug store.

Best wishes.

It's all about the hormones. Wish I had a resolution for you other than stating that benzoyle peroxide is less drying IMO than sayilic acid. acne.org has as good 2.5% benz peroxide and their face wash is good too. As far as hormones goes - perhaps it will get back to normal if indeed your hormones are still a little out of whack. Maybe nursing affects it? Often, being on the pill controls those hormones therefore controlling the pimples. I'd talk to your doctor about controling those crazy hormones.

added: Look into "emu oil". My MIL is visiting and just told me about it. I've been putting it on my face in the evenings before bed. It's only been 5 days or so, but my skin feels very soft. My SIL used emu oil at bedtime for one whole monthe and was very pleased with the touch, feel, and look of her face. She still did get one or two pimples, but she said they were flush with her face and did not bump up into a red annoying bump. I'm going to give it a try for a month too, and probably continue to use it. You use a couple little drops, rub it over your face. (A little goes a long way). MIL got it at Sprouts.
