I have had the iud mireana for almost two years now. every month i get my period the same day. this month i am two weeks late. i have been feeling really sick and light headed. I took a pregnancy test thinking maybe I could be pregnant but that came out negative, although if my calculations are right it still would be to early to tell. I truelly have had nothing but issues with this and am considering taking it out. Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them? and has anyone heard of anyone getting pregnant with the iud.

What can I do next?

Hi,

I have the Mirena (which I love by the way) and it is very common for women to stop having their period while using it. You may want to check with your doctor just to set your mind at ease, but this is very normal. Good luck!

I've had the Mirena in for 1.5 years and I haven't had my period at all! It's been nice but now I'm a little nervous. I feel fine so hopefully my body is accepting it well. Please keep us updated.

I had the same issue after having it for 1.5 years. I got my period like clockwork, then suddenly it was quite late. I was worried I might be pregnant, but didn't turn out to be. I did a little more research and started to find many, many more pregnancies while with an IUD in place than is reported in studies. I decided to have mine removed rather than life with the fear of pregnancy every time my period was late (since if you do get pregnant with an IUD in place, the removal of the IUD usually aborts the pregnancy). I'm glad I had an IUD so I was able to breastfeed my son without the hormonal complications of most BC pills, but I'm also glad I had it removed. I'm just on the pill now, and it's working just fine for me.

Hope this helps. Best of luck,
K.

I finally had my Mirena removed after about 8 mths due to continual break-thru bleeding. Felt like I had a continual period for about 8 mths! Wasn't a big deal to have removed. Similar (if not quicker) than having it inserted.
