I have heard that an I.U.D. will regulate your period. Is this true??? I have had many problems with frequent periods. I cannot take birth control pills as I am a stroke risk.
I had horrible, frequent, heavy periods and I qualified for a procedure called an ablation. Do some research or talk to your dr. I had mine almost 3 years ago and haven't even had a period since. This is not meant to stop them, it is meant to regulate them...but I guess it stops periods in about 80% of women. However, I don't think you can do this if you are planning on having more children. Something to look into.

I've been on and off the pill since I was 12 to regulate my periods, make them lighter so I don't bleed to death, and after I had my daughter, I decided to try Mirenra, the new IUD. I am so sick of daily pills if you can imagine. My first post pregnancy period started the day the Mirenra was put in, and it lasted like a month, but I've only had two since then and they've only lasted about 48 hours. Good luck!
As annoying at it can be irregular periods can be normal and healthy for YOU.
I agree that if you can't use BC I wouldn't use an IUD.
My husband and I use Natural Family Planning to keep track of my fertility. We have used it to both avoid and achieve pregnancy. Contrary to popular belief you do not have to have a regular period to use NFP. You keep track of the natural signs that your body tells you so you know when you are ovulating. I have an IUD and my periods are regular, but I don't know if it's because of the IUD or not.
No you actualluy have no periods. I have had it about a year and I hate it I have a ton of break through bleeding and you also have weight gain. So if your main purpose for getting it is regulation sorry not your best option. Hope it helps.
I dont have an IUD but i do know a few people that do and they rarely have a period ....
The answer is: depends on the kind of IUD. A pure copper iud will do nothing to regulate periods, and may increase the flow and duration of periods.
IUDs impregnanted with hormones do interfere with periods, sometimes blocking them completely (the same reason taking the pill without taking a break stops periods... the hormone supply is constant)... but if you can't take the pill because of stroke risk, you certainly can't have the same hormones delivered in a steady dose every day of your life either.
Have you considered the Billings Method? I've known some people (with stable, predictable periods) to use it with great success. It takes a lot of attention, but it's completely natural, no pills, no creams, no latex...
I was having a period every 2 weeks while I was taking the pill. I have the mirena (hormone based) iud and i no longer have peroids. it took about 4-5 months of spotting, but now I don't even have a period. the copper iud can make your period heavier, but I don't know if it will regulate it.
it is very nice not to worry about birth control.
