IUD Birth Control

I have used Mirena it is an IUT. I liked it because it had a very low dose of horomones, which was nice since I could not take pills without turning into a horomone on wheels. I never had a problem. I had it inserted 6 weeks after the birth of my son and had it taken out a few months ago. It does not hurt and you do not even know it is there. A bonus was I did not have a period for the entire time. You can go on their website. Mirena.com It has alot of info. It lasts for 5 years. It is as effective as sterilization and it can be taken out at any time. It says you return to normal fertility almost at once. I had my period about 4 days after having it removed. I would definitely recommend it! Hope this helps

Just be informed that the way it works is by not letting eggs become implanted. (There may be new ones that work differently, if so, I stand corrected) It doesn't prevent fertilization, so if that bothers you, you may want to pick something else. The ONLY reason I tell you that is for information...not judgment! :) Good luck with whatever you choose...birth control can be a hassle when you are looking for the right one!

I've had my IUD for almost six years now and LOVE IT! I've never had any problems with it.

I did use IUD birth control before I had my daughter. I used the hormonal version, not the copper. I did have complications. I bled like having a light period for the whole 7 months it was in. Then when I went to have it removed the doctor could not find the string and I had to be put under anesthesia to have it removed. I did have a horrible experience with it, but I do know some friends it worked for. Also, my doctor told me that one of the reasons she had trouble removing it was because I have a tilted uterus, which was also the reason that it was painful going in and being taken out. My suggestion for birth control would be the nueva ring. I have heard from a lot of people this works really well. I hope this helps.

Another suggestion for birth control is the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). It involves taking your tempature every morning. After you identify your fertile days, you can abstain or use condoms. The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" explains it thoroughly.

No side effects. If you want to become pregnant, no waiting for the hormones to flush out of your system. And best of all, it's free (aside from spending $9 on a basal thermometor).

I have a Mirena, and I LOVE IT! There is a bit of time after insertion where you have a long period. Then after that your cycle will return to normal. But the best part is that your period will be really light. I haven't had any problems with it, however insertion is quite painful so you may want to talk to your doctor about options for pain relief or sedation.

I saw someone say that insertion was painful - but I didn't experience any pain whatsoever.

My periods are a little odd, but they have always been that way, so no changes their.

They are really light though and some months I just spot.

I would highly recommend it!

A friend of mine told me about it, then I talked to my midwife. My midwife said she had been using the IUD's for about 14 years and she'd never had anyone who'd experienced complications or became pregnant on it (which I was impressed with because I had become pregnant while on the patch)

I have been using the nuva ring for about a year. I have had no problems really. I had problems with the pill as well as the shot. So this was a relief. Besides some water weight gain. I have had no other side affects. I like it and you really don't get much easier than this.

I have had the Mirena for a few years now. I LOVE it!! I have not had a period for about 3 years. At the beginning I had various spotting, but it then all went away. For Instering it didn't hurt, I had cramping for a couple days. But it was nothing different than what I was having during a normal period.

I am actually going to get mine removed in Oct. so we can TTC another child.

well first, I must say, pain relief or sedation for inserting this is ridiculous, there is nothing to it, especially if you have birthed a child, this is small cramping thats all, I had mirena put in this February, having had 2 kids and custody of my niece my hands are full, I didnt want to be on the pill and this seem to be the only reasonable option for me, but my body had other plans, apparently I am the 1% that this didnt work for, I bled and cramped horribly for 7 months straight up until the day I got it removed, my sex drive went to zero and I was moody, probably cause I was always bleeding and unhappy about it, my doctor put me on estrogen for a month to see if my uterus would calm down and not be so adjetated from the iud but if didnt help, I had an ultrasound and mine was in the right location and no placement issues, so I can't give rave reviews on the iud, now pretty much my only option is either my husband or me getting fixed.

I currently have Mirena, I have had no problems with it at all. I have had it since 2004, no side effects or anything. I would recommend it.

I just got the Mirena IUD a month ago and love it so far. I used to take the pill before I had children with no problems but, after the last baby I had lots of issues with it. My doctor, and I, thought the IUD would be good for me, and so far it is!! I am actually "having" my first period with it, and all it is, is spotting here and there!!! It's great! I have had an IUD for about 6 months. Other than a long period when I got it put in, I haven't had any issues.
I used DEPO for a few years and my sex drive basically dropped to zero, so that was birth control in itself haha
