Itchy and Dark Armpits

This is the second time in the past year where I have had a problem with itchy and dark armpits. I am not sure what I did last time for it to go away, it just went away..but this time it seems to be taking longer and it's worse. There is no apparent rash, they just itch and are slightly darkening and seem a little swollen. I have researched everything I can find and it seems I don't fit the description on any of the reasons why this is happening. I shower regularly, and wash myself very well. I changed soaps, deodorant (even tried not wearing deodorant), even bought a non scented sensitive skin deodorant. I tried not shaving, I tried shaving with different razors...I've tried rubbing lotion on them and I have tried neosporin. I wear loose cotton clothing, I don't sweat a lot and if I do I shower afterwords. They won't stop itching and it just hurts...beyond itchy...like they are bruised. So strange and I can't stand it. Does anyone know what is going on? Have had the same thing happen have any remedies to share? I am not going to go to the Dr.....at least not now. Trying to figure out on my own. Thanks. Oh, and this is for people willing to help, mean people are not welcome to answer.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So, just to update in case anyone really cares, I bought the Tom's Of Main Deodorant that someone suggested, and it seems to be helping. I can tell the itch is subsiding and I am feeling much better. I wonder if that is what it was all along, because I do have weird allergies to things...that are seasonal so IDK, maybe this problem has something to do with that. Thanks for the advice!

The dark skin part made me think you might want your hormones tested. MIght be a long shot but thought I'd throw it out there incase other things don't resolve it. I know low Thyroid can cause dry dark itchy skin. I had patches on my legs and knees because of this. Take care

Hi,
Not sure about the darkening sking....but a friend of mine was getting rashes and I suggested Tom's of Maine deodorant - i think it was the aluminum content that was causing the itchiness....it seems to work...good luck!

I agree that it could be a yeast infection. You might want to go get it checked out if it continues. In the mean time Keep the area really dry (no powders or lotions etc.) and put some plain organic yogurt on it you should also eat a lot of yogurt too this will help to keep it from coming back. In the summer you sweat keeping certain areas wet all the time which helps the yeast to grow.

Sounds like a yeast infection to me. Get some gynalotrimin or monistat and put it on there. Try to keep them cool and dry. The armpits are perfect environments for yeast to grow---so I would not be suprised if that was what was going on. I hope you feel better!

I would go back to a laundry soap that is 'fragrance free' - like the Arm & Hammer Pure and Clean - I think that's it...

Don't wear clothes/PJs to bed...let your body breath - do NOT put deodorant on before bed (there are those that do)...

instead of using deodorant - use baking powder or soda...either one will absorb smells and be "natural"
