We have a Kenmore Elite that the rear bearing went out on.. It's only 6 years old. :( We are told to fix it will cost $###-###-####. Of course I am NOT fixing it! So Back to searching for a NEW washer. What do you have? What are the Pros & Cons of it? A side note: I am trying hard to NOT buy the dryer with it at this point in time since it works. (I can't believe appliance do not last longer than this anymore it's such a waste)

I asked a similar question last week. We ended up buying the Whirlpool Duet and so far I love it. (I just got it on Tuesday) It is pretty quiet and doesn't vibrate enough to move it at all. The washer also has a built in fan to help with drying it out when you're done. It's a front loader, but I got the pedestals so bending isn't a problem.

We just bought the front loading Samsung. I have heard LG is good too, Samsung was rated highest. So far we love it! There are a few drawbacks but many pros too. they hold a lot more, they take a lot less detergent...you are only supposed to use about 2 tbls b/c it adds water to it as it loads. it cleans really well, it has many, many settings for whatever you need including handwash, towels, heavy, dry clean only, etc it also has a self cleaning cylce so you can clean the machine without any soap. I had heard a drawback was that once the cycle started you would not be able to add things like when you forget a sock, etc I have not had any trouble with this one, I have literally added 10 mins in...just hit pause and it opens the lock. It doesn't use hardly any water b/c it just sprays them, then swishes and rotates then sprays them. It never really fills with water. The bad thing so far is that if you don't leave the door open to air out, it gets smelly. You also have to sometimes stick a towel in the rubber surrounding the door b/c it has standing water in it. Other than that, we love it! You can get them on sale now.

We have the Samsung front-loading steam washer. We got it about a year ago and looooove it! The clothes get CLEAN with a minimal amount of detergent. My husband works in construction, so his work clothes get really nasty. I just throw them in on the sanitize cycle and they come out clean and smelling great. Also I've noticed that when I put towels in on the sanitize cycle (which, by the way, I love - no chemicals at all, just steam!), the towels don't get that musty smell. You can use the same towel for a week and it still smells great on day 6. We did experience one warranty issue and Samsung had someone out within 24 hours to fix it. It actually turned out to be an installation issue, but they covered the cost anyway! They were great to work with. I think because I use the sanitize cycle all the time, I never have issues with the washer smelling at all. I would highly recommend the Samsung.

I LOVE having a front loader, except that mine is on the small side. I've had the Miele for about 7 years and have needed a repair person just once for something small. I've never had a problem with smells or mildew in the door. I wouldn't recommend the Miele to everyone though. It is expensive, it needs special HE detergent and it can be difficult to find a repair person if you need one. However, I recently learned that Warners' Stellian sells and repairs them. When I purchased it I was told that the lifespan of my Miele is about 25 years. I just purchased a new refrigerator and dishwasher from Warners' Stellian and had great customer service and got great advice. Let me know if you want the name of my salesperson. What I like about the front loader is that it uses MUCH less water and detergent and is gentle on the clothes. I do hand wash loads on a special setting all of the time. I don't know if it's the special detergent or the machine, but my boys' whites are brighter than their friend's clothes. As I said, mine is on the small side so I can't fit a comforter in it. I can squish in a twin comforter, but that's pushing it.

I answered Patty's last week I think. I am glad she didn't ge the Cabrio.

I have the Cabrio. It is 4 years old and I have had the repair guy out 5 times. THe computer went bad twice, coins get in the motor if you do not clean out the pockets, the shock absorbers have gone out. Every time somethign happens the repair men have to order the part. THen I end up at the laundrymat. The spin cycle is loud and the heavy duty loads always get off balamce.
The positives------It cleans well and it's pretty.
I can re-up my warranty this year and I defintely will.

we have the LG frontloaders, we've them for 4-5 years now and i really like them. had maytag before that and it was one problem after another, i will never buy another maytag product.

kay b - i hate that you don't like yours! i might clean my filter once or twice a year, and i wash my 4 indoor dogs blankets(6 at a time) three times a week, TONS of dog fur goes through that machine and i've never had a problem with needing to clean the filter frequently. i also have a pause button on mine if i need to add something mid-cycle. i guess we have different types of LGs?

I hate my LG frontloader. It stinks. The filter gets clogged and needs cleaned monthly allowing water to fall out. Also, it holds less clothes than the sears kenmore 3.4 bushel toploader. You can not soak anything.
You can not add anything unless you cancel and start the cycle over because it is locked.

Interesting. At the risk of jinxing myself, I have not had one-iota of problems with my 8 year old Kenmore Elite He3 front loader.
I do remember when I had my 10+ front loaders (can't remember the brand) the repairman telling me that it does sound cliche, but 'they don't make them like they used to."
I've also recently read that all appliances are made to only last 5-10 years.

I totally agree with the Whirlpool Duet on a pedastal. We've had one for several years and I am SO glad we chose it! I was originally looking for a top loader and am thrilled I decided on this one.
