I am due with my second child in May and have a 23 month old son and I was wondering if the double stroller was a good thing to get. Some of my friends said it was a waste of money and some said it was good. My son loves to sit in the stroller when we go to the Mall so I was looking into them for that reason because I don't want to take the stroller away from him.It is just alot of money to spend on a stroller when I have one that is only two years old.

What can I do next?

I have the sit n stand stroller that they offer at One Step ahead. And I love it. My son is almost 4 and he can walk besides me at the mall or if he gets to tired he can stand on the little landing while I push or he can sit. It is great. They also sell it at baby depot. If you do end up getting one. Don't bother with the side by side. Everyone I know hates them. They don't fit through any doorway and forget trying to get through the racks at the mall.

Hi L.,
Congradulations on your almost new arrival!! I think a doubler stroller is a good idea only because you will be chasing your older one around. They are expensive, but you could look on craigslist.com and also in the paper for a good used one. I actually have one myself that you can have for free. It needs to be cleaned up but it does the job and is still very sturdy. The only thing wrong w/ it is on the bottom basket the snap broke through. It is a blue Graco. I bought it from a yard sale for $60.00. It worked great for me. I have 6 kids and my youngest is 28 months so we don't need it anymore. If you are interested let me know and we can make arrangments. Good luck with your new lil' one. K. R.

I think it depends on your parenting style. You could certainly keep your single stroller for your toddler if you wanted to tote you infant in a sling or carrier.
If you arent into the baby wearing, I think getting a double stroller would be a great idea.

My kids are two years and 1 week apart and we opted for a double stroller. And it has gotten ALOT of use. I couldnt imagine not having it. When my daughter was a newborn she clipped right into the back seat in her infant car seat. It was fantastic. We still use it now in case my older child gets tired and doesnt want to walk anymore.

There are SO many different ones out there. Make sure you test drive a bunch to get the one you like.

for me, I loved it, it was great,
I just kept it in the back of my minivan, I used it in the mall and at restaurants, parks, and things like that,
MORE during the summer months,
in the winter we hardly went out, and i would use the carriage at the walmart or pricechopper, home depot.

But in the summer you want to go to the park, and play, ride bikes its great, you put the baby in the stroller, and your hands are free,

or at the mall, it can get busy, and its more difficult to watch the baby and chase your 2 year old.
and they get tired from all the walking around,

( I keep my 2 on the same NAP schedule, so i plan trips to the mall when I knwow they are gonna sleep.)

I strap them both in and get my hair done, or eyebrows

Go to the doctors office and strap them in,

I guess it depends on if you leave your kids at home with a sitter,

If you leave them at home then its not an issue, but i don't have family close by, and my kids like to get out of the house aswell.

You do need a stroller for the baby anyways,

and you'll always have a place for your big one, and the diaper bags, and your purse, and the toys, and the bottles, and the shopping

Graco, sells them for 150
and www.freecycle.org
craigslist, and get a second hand stroller
or one for free.

The way i look at it, you know your child, he likes to relax in the stroller, with the age diffrence you need a place to rest the baby and him,

I have also tried the sling, and one stroller, but sometimes your back needs a rest. and your hubby isn't always there to help.

So hope this helps, good luck

M

First and foremost Congratulations!!

I have two children that are 18 months apart and I got a lot of use out of my double stroller with the two of them because I didn't have to worry about one always trying to run off. my other children were three years apart so using a double stroller dodn't make sense, but in your case i would definitly invest in a double stroller at two years old your son will not stay with you and hold on to a stroller, he will want to explore and it will be harder to keep up with him pushing a stroller. As a mother of a two year old I can tell you a double stroller will be nice to have when the baby comes. Hope this helps.

I think it depends on whether or not you'd get good use out of it. Are you always out and about, would you need it or could you handle a newborn in a snuggly and a stroller for one? The double stroller one in front of the other was my friends choice instead of the side by side one.

i was having the same problem except my 22month old son hates the stroller....if ur son loves the stroller then i think it would be a good idea to get one..you have to take in to consideration how many time you will be going out alone and such i would keep the other stroller for the single days when its just you and him and such...i hope i was helpfull..

I think the answer to that question depends on your lifestyle and how much use you would get out of it.

In my case my daughters are 18 months apart and the double stroller (the front/back style - not side by side) was a lifesaver and worth every penny I paid for it.

One thing to keep in mind, if your son loves the stroller and is not ready to give it up, there's a good chance he will become jealous if the baby uses HIS stroller.

Good luck and congratulations.

Another thought. When my oldest didn't care to ride in the stroller, the empty seat made a great storage area when we were out for the day.

I used mine all the time. If you go out a lot you will need it. Your son is still young and if he likes it your lucky..
It has been a while but I didnt spend a ton of money.
