I've recently been thinking about giving my only child a sibling in the next couple years. He just turned 5 in October. Is 6 or 7 years too much of a difference? My only sister and I are 7 years apart, and we have always gotten along and been very close. My hubby thinks its too much of a age difference so is leaning towards not adding to the family. I haven't decided for sure either way. I'd be perfectly fine with my son as an only child, but also wouldn't mind him having a sibling. Any thoughts or opinions?
my DH is 7 years older than his sister and 14 years older than his brother. I have several friends with that much space between their siblings. Like most everything else in life, there's no ONE RIGHT WAY to add to your family. Everyone does it differently and each way has its good and bad points. Don't let the age difference be the ONLY reason to say no...
My daughter was 6yrs 10mths old when her twin brothers were born in June2005. I could not have it any better. She is old enough that she doesn't have to compete with them, they have nothing she wants. She is an awesome helper and protector, I rarely have to ask her to do anything for her brothers, she just automatically helps them if they need something. I think she will always be a great influence in their lives, just old enough to be a bit wiser and more mature but still close enough that as adults they can still have common things to share.
I would hate being an only child and often wonder if only children miss having siblings or if they ever think about it.
My brother is 6 years younger. Being a girl, my parents thought I was a built-in babysitter which I deeply resent. Other than that I loved having a baby brother.
It really depends on if you and your husband want another child, and if you do, it is not too late. Your son will be very happy with a younger sibling.

My older sister is 6 years older than I. It's just her and I in the family, no other siblings. This was not intentional but the way it turned out after many unsuccessful pregnancies with my mom.
My sister and I grew up very close. She was more a 2nd mom to me than a sibling. May not be the case with a boy (?). I do remember it kind of being hard for my sister when she was going through the older teenage years with me always wanting to tag along. But that was about it. I loved having a older sister and I think that I can speak for my sister that she liked having a younger sister too.
