Ipod but No Cell Phone? Worth It?

My husband and I do not have a cell phone, we don't have cable, and we don't have any gaming system. We have wireless internet and a desktop computer. We do not want cell phones or cable. We've considered a gaming system in a couple of years.

I have been looking at getting an Ipod Touch 4G lately. My husband doesn't think I will use it enough to warrant the cost.

Does anyone else out there have one that doesn't have any other gadgets? That feels it was worth it? How do you use it?

What can I do next?

My daughter has an Ipod Touch 4, she's 12 going on 13. She loves it. She goes on Facebook all the time--and then I go on and see what she is doing. She can text--which is good because I can send her a message if needed. She does NOT have a phone and won't get one for some time. She saved up the money herself to get this. She also loves whatever lets her draw on it. Somehow-don't ask me cause I have no clue-she can get calls on this thing if she is near active WI-FI. But it is not a phone. My other daughter wants to save up to buy one and I have no problem with it.

It will only be worth it if you use it.

We have it.
We love it.
My Daughter inherited it from my Husband, when he got his iPhone.
They can communicate/instant chat with each other anytime, via these "i" gadgets. It is very useful.

Definitely worth it IF you can find a use for it. From your post, it doesn't sound like you're too interested in tech in general, but I don't know, maybe you'll realize you love tech when you get an iPod touch. Just watch our for the non-free apps, though. Once you supply your credit card credentials in your iTunes account (where you get the "apps"), it's so easy to buy stuff (some games even sell "in-game money" in exchange for real money, which will be charged on your credit card).

My boys both have the iPod Touch. I have an iPhone (so does Nana and my gorgeous Guy). The cool thing about the iPods is that they can "text" other iPods and iPhones using iMessage through the Wifi.

My boys LOVE theirs and use them all the time. They watch movies on Netflix, listen to music on Pandora, etc.

BUT...as an adult, I'll tell you that I would get the iPhone...because you'll want access to those things even when you aren't in Wifi.

Yes, we have one. We do have cell phones but not smart phones. We have wireless internet so we got an ipod touch for the same reason. We love it! My kids love it too! We have a police scanner app on there that I love, my kids have games on it, there's a calorie counter app, just TONS of stuff. Definitely worth it!

i've wanted an iPhone forever!! (I'm a big Apple techie) but mean hubby says no...(one day I will for sure), so I got an iPod Touch and love it (I have a Droid phone now so I can do alot of things on it that my iPod did) and I also have an iPad which kinda replaced my iPod when I got it (only because the screen is bigger). But, it is worth it. Really the only thing missing is the phone part and the fact that in order to do many things on it, you need a wifi internet connection. So if I went to someone else's house, I would get the password for their wifi network and the next time I was there, it remembers the password and automatically hooks you up. I have an app called 'iTrack Baby' that I track my daughters growth on. I have a free application on my computer called Handbrake that I use to convert DVD movies to MP4's that I have on my iPad and iPod. I have all my photos on it too. The size iPod you get will depend on what you want to put on it. App's don't take up that much room so if you don't have alot movies or photos on music, you could get away with the smaller iPod (I have a 64gig). The games you can play on it is great... but some do require internet access. Oh, also this has been a life saver in restaurants because if my son go fidgety, I just popped a movie on the iPod for him and he was good. And I also let him play games on it when we are at the store so I can get through my shopping. Most games are free, .99-2.99. So the prices are very reasonable.

I'd go with an iPad, or an iPhone (if a cell phone would also be useful).
