I just read an article that some insurance plans cover the cost of a breat pump. Has anybody had any luck with an Aetna choice plan? If you have been able to get the cost covered with any plan, please let me know any tips you have for me.

Congrats on your baby! I do not know about coverage but I have a medela breast pump for sale. you can purchase new parts to it (breast shields etc.) at any hospital or store that sale medela supplies. If interested let me know. Good Luck!
I also went to Harris for my pump and got it tax free with MD perscription. they are so great there ALSO if you buy a used one check out these "comfort" design breast shields. they are angled and make a HUGE difference. So much easier on you. I didn't have them with my first and found them at the Harris downtown breastfeeding resource center about a month after I was back at work pumping more frequently and loved them soo much I vowed to tell all moms about them. GREAT!!!

Hi M., You might look on E-bay for a gently used breastpump. I purchased one for my daughter (medella) that was in pristine condition for just around $100. It worked perfectly and we will probably put it back on Ebay when she is done with it.

while not all insurance plans cover the cost you have to begin with a prescription from your OB or pedi, then find out from your plan if they cover rental or purchase.(some cover rental for a baby in NICU only). Also ask if you have a Flexible spending acct, they will usually cover it. It does come out of your paycheck monthly, but it is tax free. Last of all with a prescription you can purchase from LC's like the Nestingplace has, without paying the sales tax on a medical item.

It really depends on your employer (or your DH's employer). Not all employers participate in the lactation program. And even some that do participate have restrictions about who can get a pump and for what reasons. Also, your selection will be limited if you are approved. Our insurance only offered the Medela PIS or PISA, but I wanted the Ameda Purely Yours because it was a better pump, IMO. The APY wasn't covered... I ended up paying out of pocket for my APY.

Our insurance would only cover a breast pump for children in NICU, but my doctor wrote me a prescription and Harris actually gave me a 10% discount because we had the prescription from our doctor. You may also want to inquire about your insurance paying for your newborn classes, child birth classes and breast feeding classes. Mine paid a portion.

Almost 3 years ago I was able to get Aetna PPO to cover the cost of a rental after letters from my OBGYN and Pediatrician and NICU doctors due to the fact that my son was 4 1/2 weeks early, had pre-mature lung disease, and spent 2 weeks in the NICU. I had my heart set on nursing and couldn't for 2 weeks so they reimbursed me for the cost of a rental up to $250. The rental was $48 a month so I kept it for 5 months. I had to contact them and they sent me a list of suppliers that I could get them from in order for the reimbursement. Then I had to have the supplier fill out paperwork provided by Aetna when I submitted for reimbursement. I got mine from a Lady out of Ft. Worth that ran a business out of her home.
