We just got the word we are heading to Sasebo, Japan. We have a 13 yr old son, now in eigth grade. Will there be anything to keep him busy? He is on the swim team. Will he have any opportunities to swim? We were caught off-gaurd with an early move. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I love Sasebo! We've been here for 16 months so far. I think there is a swimming team, but I'm not sure. My children are too young for that. I live on base and I really enjoy it since the ships are gone so much. But I have a lot of friends who live off base. Housing on base is limited. I think Sasebo will be very different than Okinawa. I hear Oki is very Americanized. Please contact me if you have any questions.

hello,
I was a teacher at EJ King in Sasebo before a transfer to Azores, and I can assure you that your whole family will enjoy Sasebo.
Great school, great community, and great area for kids.
Have fun!

Hi S.,

We have been in Sasebo for almost 5 years and love it. There is a swim team in the summer, plus there's a great indoor pool here and gym. Also, the seasonal MWR sports programs year round which my kids do. There's a teen center and all sorts of clubs at the middle/high school plus there's a great Boy Scout program. He shouldn't be bored!
Here's a link to the base online newspaper http://www.cfas.navy.mil/soundingsonline/Contents/C_notes...

I can MPS you the base events magazine if you like and some material from Travel and Tours. Let me know if there's anything else.

Chris

I have a cousin-in-law in Sasebo. He's a single guy though. In the navy. Are you worried about it being smaller that the bases here or something. I can try to get his email address or phone number from my husband.
