Infant Eczema 911 !!

Hi,

My daughter had pretty bad exzema on her legs but over the years it has gotten better. It really only flares up when pollen is really bad and/or very cold outside. Anyhow, we don't have to use the steroid cream anymore but use over the counter creams that works very well. Least it works on my daughter. If it is really bad, we use the following: First I put on Eucerin Aquaphor Healing ointment on so when I put the lotion on it would stink as much. My daughter can tell you what a different. Then I put on Eucern Calming creme. Since I started using this last year, her breakout isn't quite so often. Hope this helps.

Buy Aveeno Baby Soothing relief moisture care, cream tube with navy cap.
Approx $5.99, much cheaper than a prescription. But also get Elidel, a prescription. Good Luck!!

Get her in to the doctor. It may not be Eczema, it could be allergies or something worse. I would take my kid in NOW. Only a doctor can authorize any extended steroid cream usage. I don't mess with this stuff as my kids have allergies and the skin reactions can be scary!

I don't have experience with this first hand but a friend does. Based on her experience I would seek out a holistic pediatrician or a nutritionist/homeopath. Eczema is more than "skin deep" and you need to get to the root of the weakness to really get rid of it. Diet, supplements and avoiding certain foods are huge. It may be hard to do now -- but the long term pay off is so worth it - I am sure you know but synthetic fabrics irritate eczema -- all cotton is suggested for everything that touches their skin-- or other natural fabrics -- silk, linen etc. Good luck!

Good luck with this one. My daughter and I both have eczema, so understand your plight. Definitely get her into the doctor - it is possible it is allergy related, verses just eczema. If you haven't done so already, limit her baths to basic sponge baths, and get her in and out quick. Also, baths to every other day or so - that will help her skin rehydrate. We use Aveeno products almost exclusively for her, as they are gentle on her skin. After baths, she gets a baby formulated baby oil, without a fragrance, and eczema cream.

Outside of bath time, you may want to consider changing detergants for her cloting. We use detergants without fragrances and dyes, to limit what aggrevates her skin.

eczema is often caused by an allergy, especially a food allergy. My son had severe eczema and it finally went away when I stoped giving him cows milk, or anything with whey or cows milk in it, including cheese, yogurt, butter... etc.
You may want to check with your dr to see if you can have her tested for allergies, and if she is allergic to some foods, eliminating them from her diet, most likely will end the eczema.

Are you on city water? If so, it has chlorine in the water. A friend of mine started bathing her child in non-chlorinated water and the eczema went away. She has done lots of research in this type of thing because her son has many allergies. It may not completely take away your daughter's eczema, but I bet it would help. T.

i know people have already said this, but i would definitely take her back to the dr. do excema or allergies run in your family? i have been told that your child usually gets it bc it runs in the family (not always i am sure, just saying that's what i was told bc my son has a mild case of it). if so, maybe someone can suggest what they do to ease it. i would also try the aveeno products, bc they are supposed to be really good. i also always keep over the counter hydrocortisone cream on hand, in case my son has an outbreak. anyway, good luck!

I know that you have received some very good advice ... I have a few things that you might want to try? We have used Aveeno Soothing Baby Bath Treatment - it comes with 6 packets and works pretty good. You can also use regular oatmeal baths as well. They also told me to get rid of ALL things with fragrance. I also watch diary intake, and other food allergies. I will also tell you that if your little one is teething there might be a colleration. My gf figured out that when her son has a really bad outbreak (he is 8 now) that he is getting sick or feels rundown. She notcied that when he was little and would run a slight fever with the teething that he had a bad outbreak. Also, I went to the Dr recently and he said my son (3 mnths) has dry skin. He told me to start watching (right now) his reaction to formula and then really watch it when we start introducing rice cereal and foods. He told us that this could be the first sign to Exema, and having a link to food allergies.

I know that Elidel (prescription) works too, and should be safe. You do have to get script from you Dr for it. Its really a trial situation to see what works and helps.
