We are starting the adoption process and I need to get certified in infant & child CPR. I'm having problems finding a class to take. I was hoping someone would have some information and could at least point me in the right direction. Thanks!
Thank you so much for all your responses. I am probably going to sign up for one at Palos Community. There are a couple other hospitals nearby that have the classes, but I like Palos, so I'm probably going to go with that one. Thank you so much for your help!
Congrats on the adoption process, I took mine in Edwards Hospital in Naperville even though I live far from it, but the class is very informative and easy to understand compare to other classes and it's a 1 day session, from about 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Good Luck!!
i just took a class at northwestern prentice hospital. the classes are listed on the northwestern website.
Go to your local hospital. I don't know where you live but Palos Community Hospital in Palos Park has a Infant/child cpr class geared towards parents and new parents. It was totally worth it! I am sure it is offered at other hospitals too!

if you are in or near oak park check with the fire dept they give cpr classes oak park residers are(or at least used to be) free they may also know where else to send you ,if this is out of your area check with your FD or check for the american heart association(online) and see if they can get you to a place to take CPR. I think all parents and child care workers including teachers,lunch room aides and anyone having anything to do with kids should be CPR certified,so good for you and wishing you the very best on your adoption
Try your local hosptial - I don't know where you are located, but Ingalls Hospital in Harvey offers this class for new parents.
First I would try your local fire or police station or community center or YMCA to see if any low-cost or free couses are available. If not, go to the American Heart Association's website. Go for it!!
If you live in the city, you can go to CPR Associates located around Western and Peterson. They are an organization through the American Heart Association and have ongoing classes. They cost about $30. I don't have their info off hand, but I think their web address is just www.cprassociates.com...or you can google them. Better to go through the AMA than the red cross as it is a 2 year certification vs. 1 year certification.
I took mine at the hospital where I had my son. I am sure that many hospitals offer these kinds of classes to the public. It was wonderful. Hope that this helps.
Friends of ours found a class at a local fire department. They are also in the process of adopting. I think they took their class at the Western Springs fire dept. Local hospitals sometimes teach these as well or the Red Cross might be another possbility.
