Inductions

I have 2 kids--5yrs & 20months. I was induced with both pregnancies. Not because of being late, but because of their sizes; My doctors didn't want the babies getting too big for my body to handle. I LOVED being induced. It made things easy to prepare fore. Although, I don't have any natural births to compare it to. While it "can" take longer, it doesn't necessarily happen. With my daughter, it did take a while, but that is because they didn't give me pitocin until hours after I was there...My daughter was diagnosed with a heart defect before birth, so they wanted to wait as long as they could before giving it to me. Once they gave me pitocin & broke my water, it went really fast. Maybe about 2-3 hours? I'm hoping my next baby will get a natural birth so I can experience that too, but I honestly had no problems or complaints with being induced. Oh, my only suggestion is make sure you eat good the night before as once you step into that hospital they will not let you have anything except water.

I was just induced w/my third 7 weeks ago. I, like you, wanted to go into labor naturally. My doc scheduled my induction on my due date. And like w/my second, I started having contractions on my own. Well, this last pregnancy, my contractions just STOPPED....after getting to 6 minutes apart!!!! Anyway, I kept my induction scheduled and am glad I did. I read all the horror stories and was nervous too. Like the previous poster said...it made things easy. My other kids were already at my parents, bag was packed, etc. I was 4cm when I got there so that maybe made somewhat of a difference. She was barely giving me any Pitocin, but it did the trick. I was only on it for less than 4 hours. Just go for it! And have them start you out slow to see what happens. Good Luck!

Hopefully your body will take over, as nature intended. Inductions are soooo common, and one has to ask if it's for the convenience factor (of both doc. and moms), or if it's really for the well being of the mom and baby. The HUGE exposure to fake hormones can't be good for a baby.
I was induced with my first because my amnio fluids were too low. I thought it was horrible, the contractions are so much more painful. My second child arrived 3 weeks early on his own, and my third was just a couple days late. It is possible that are due dates are not exactly correct also.
With #3 I was contracting all night at home, and went to the hospital at 5am. Once I got there, the contractions totally stopped, like the previous writer. After walking did not start them up again, my midwife broke my waters. The contractions started like crazy after that, and baby was born within 2 hours.
1. If your open to it, try acupuncture. My friend did this when she went late, and it worked! She went into labor the same day.
2. If your dilating, and almost totally effaced, see if your physician would be open to breaking your water bag so that contractions might start on their own.
3. If induction is inevitable, ask them to use the lowest amount necessary to get things rolling.

I was induced with my 2 oldest and I have no horror stories to tell you--everything was fine. The only negative was with my first I was 1 centimeter when i went in and it took 12 hours to get me ready to push.(that was my first though) With my second, my dr. didnt induce me until I was 2 weeks late. Things went a lot faster. It has only been four days,wont your dr. let you wait a few more? The good thing about being induced is you are prepared and know when you are leaving and can get your son all ready. Good luck and best wishes on your new little bundle of joy!!!!!!!
