In Search of Affordable Housing in a Safe Neighborhood

Does anyone know how to find affordable housing? I am looking to rent a house, preferrably, and do not have the option of a roommate. I am working full time, but do not receive child support - I've been through the system, but they cannot find "old dad" in Missouri, so our case was closed, they told me "good luck" - so my income is limited. I also spend about a third of my income on daycare. I do not qualify for the state programs - worked my butt off to get out of the system and completed this task in November! ;D I have lived in the public housing and it was sooo scary! I work in North Mesa, and the daycare is only a few miles away. Ideally, that would be the area I'd like to find something. Thanks in advance for any input!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi ladies! Thank you for your replies! I decided to go the apartment route after all and found one a couple of miles from work and daycare. The price is right, they had a move-in special for $9, and I found out this morning I was approved! I have about 4 weeks to complete my move-in/ move-out, so I won't be in a rushed panic.... maybe it is my turn to have things going my way! :D

Hello-

A lot of homes are going into forclosure, because people cannot afford them. Most of the homes near Sossaman & Guadalupe area are being rented out anywhere between $###-###-####, because the drop in the market. These are newer homes, (SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS) and they are Gilbert schools, which are the BEST!!! $1250 for rent, that is a bit much, and you can deffinately find something a lot cheaper. I have a 4 bedroom and I only pay $1100, and that was when the housing market was expensive and booming!!!

The best thing, is to drive around looking for rental properties......

What is affordable to you? Below what amount? My in-laws have a very nice home for rent on Sossaman and Southern. It is in the Superstition Springs subdivision. It is a newer home with wood floors, new carpet and it has a fenced pool. We were considering renting it,but I have an in-home daycare and that is too far for some of my parents to travel. I believe they are trying to rent it for $1250. Like I said, I don't know what is affordable to you, but I thought I would throw it out there.

We are looking to rent too and it is hard to find a nice home, for lower rent. Just let me know if you would like their contact information. I look forward to hearing from you soon! By the way, does your child go to a center or an in-home daycare? I would love to help you save some money on your childcare expenses. I am at Power and McKellips. Have a great day!

Well, you may not like to think of moving but the areas to the south of you are cheaper and newer. Perhaps consider a rental in the Queen Creek or Gilbert areas. All are safe areas, with good schools and cheaper housing.

Good luck!
