I used Dr. Dean Spingola with the Northern Texas Facial and Oral Surgeons in the Irving area...off of 635, http://www.ntfos.com/practice_concierge/spingola.html.
I had nineteen teeth pulled two years ago. Same type of dental problems and I'd spent a small fortune trying to save them all. If I'd only realized how much better I'd feel and how easy it would be, I never would have even hesitated.
I woke still in the dental chair, but with my dentures in my mouth. I cried when they handed me the mirror to see how lovely they were. The surgery took under two hours and was at 2:00 in the afternoon. I was a little fuzzy that evening. Managed on over the counter meds for pain, although, I had a prescription for something stronger. The surgeon called that evening to check on me and I really didn't need anyone with me, even though they suggested someone be nearby. I live alone. Oh, and I had to have someone in the waiting room during the surgery and to drive me home.
The next morning, my daughter took me to my regular dentist who removed the dentures and checked my mouth. All was fine. Over the weekend, I was able to manage liquids and some soft items....absolutely no sodas. By Monday, I was ready for some corrections on my dentures. The dentist gave me daily access for adjustments. It took a few weeks for that and a few visits. All of included in the initial charge for the surgery. They provided me with a tube of substance to rub on my gums anytime I removed my teeth. I used it liberally and because of that, the healing process was much faster. Soft foods for awhile. You'll be amazed at how much you can manage, though.
I love my dentures. No one understands unless they've had to deal with the issues I dealt with the entire time I had my natural teeth. I have to use a little denture adhesive, but I don't mind. The dentist will tell you when it's okay to use something like that. Don't do it without asking. But, I can eat anything I want....even nuts and corn on the cob and crunchy veggies. Just take your time. Don't rush...until you are sure of yourself. Everyone is different.
My health is better and other than a checkup for oral cancers and such, I never have to see my dentist.
Try not to worry. I love my dentures and can eat better than before. I had constant pain on one side of my mouth or the other *before* the dentures. Now, I'm pain free. I hope your experience is as positive as mine has been. Good luck.
