After several restless nights about 7 months ago, I was on my way to work falling asleep at the wheel. I had to stop and get me something to wake me up. A Mountain Dew, or a Dr. Pepper I thought. Low and behold I walk in a Walgreens and staring at me in the freezer section was a black & green can called "Monster". An energy drink. I read the label, lots of suger, but what the heck......it has caffine, so I tried it out. I didnt have another for a few weeks until I had another restless night. The monster had worked and woke me up- so I bought another! Now, 7 months later, I have a few a week! I have heard they are not all that great for you. Im looking for something else that will revitilize me in the mornings (not coffee) and somehting that is good. Anyone have any recommendations for a healthy energy drink or teas that has minimal sugers, carbs- but can give me a boost of energy!

What can I do next?

I sell Advocare and their energy drink Spark is the best and sugar free with only 45 calories, 21 vitamins, minerals and nutrients. It has replaced my morning coffee and is a great afternoon pick me up. I would love to send you some different flavors- grape, citrus, cherry, mango strawberry, pink lemonade, mandarin orange, fruit punch- to try. My web page is www.advocare.com/11091914. Message me you address is you are interested and I will get some samples to you in the mail tomorrow. They have some great products that have really changed my life.

I have banned energy drinks from my home- they put me in the hospital for five days, and I nearly died of a heart attack after my heart rate reached 200 beats per minute. Turns out I had a benign arrhythmia that was exacerbated by the energy drinks in such a way that it gave me atrial fibrillation. I think those things are awful!!

I take liquid vitamin B complex. It works much better than the energy drinks and is better for me. Also aerobic exercise 15-30 minutes in the morning. You would be so surprised at how much energy your body can get from doing 50-100 jumping jacks in the morning or just running in place for 10-15 minutes.

I would also recommend trying to set your schedule so you do actually get the sleep your body needs. There is no real substitute for a good night's rest.

Sounds counter-intuitive and you might get a caffeine headache at first but try starting your day with a glass of water or orange juice. Seriously. A lot of people are dehydrated, and that makes you sluggish.

Also, look at your sleep environment and see what you can change - no TV, make it dark, go to bed at the same time every night, etc.

Oh how I love this coffee! Its a new thing that I found that caffine helps me make it through the day! You stated that your not really needing caffine every day that your just using it to help you out on those days after those restless nights. Have you tried that melatonin natural sleep aid (i think thats what its called) it might help you out on those restless nights. B-12 drops help with energy but i dont think they give that huge boost like straight up caffine does! Coke Zero is also my other go too. So I am looking forward to reading what others are doing that is much healthier! Great question.

AV - orange juice is very high in sugar. or it changes in the body quickly to sugar. think steel magnoilas when she has to "drink your juice".

A Berry Smoothy will give you lots of energy.

Yes, the monster drinks will affect your heart. If you take too many, your heart will not be able to handle it and you can collapse. One is ok. There is this girl that worked in an office and was addicted to those and drank several...I believe it was 12...and she died that day. Too much caffeine can be lethal...and I think a lot of people forget that.

Fruit smoothies are a great way to start the day. Going to bed earlier will also greatly help and lots of exercise will too.

The commerical was right when they said if you keep your body in motion it will stay in motion. :-) Along with eating a lot of the right foods of course and getting the rest your body needs.

energy drinks aren't bad once in a while but yeah, all the sugar isn't good. FRS is something more natural- works well for me.

A couple a week? Sorry but that's not an addiction lol, When I'm not pregnant I LOVE me some red bull, so much so that my husband HATES it.. only because he loves it too.. He said that smelling it makes his mouth water and it must cause cancer or something to be that good (it drives me crazy). They do make the sugar-free varieties of both Red Bull and Monster, I hate monster but the sugar free red bull tastes almost exactly like the regular kind.. you're an adult and if you want to have a few a week what's the problem? Especially if your diet is otherwise pretty healthy.. I'd look into the sugar free Monster if I were you.

I used to drink so much sugar free red bull, my pee was neon green.

It's soooo bad for you.

Instead, when you need a quick pick me up, jog in place or sing at the top of your lungs, it gets the blood flowing, safely ;)

I still drink my 3 cups of 1/2 caff coffee in the morning, but sugar free red bull is still my vice (with vodka!)

I take vitmain b complex and a multivitamin every morning and another b-12 complex when the 3 oclock sleepiness hits me. I can really feel a boost of energy that lasts a good 4 hours.

I like Monsters alot too. I still use them when I have a big cleaning day ahead of me or want to really attack a big project around the house. Like anything else, it's ok in moderation. I have switched to buying the 5 hr energy shots. Because I can just drink half, screw the lid back on and put it in the fridge until next time and you dont get all the calories or carbs.
