They leave an envelope with the issue, name, number to call them back. When I had an issue I could never get hold of this woman. It has since been dismissed and purged. The envelope was actually sticking out of my mail slot so anyone could have taken it. A woman I met that had an issue because of her boyfriend kept getting notes and then warned because she was not cooperating. If you do get anything or know someone that does, make sure you keep track of calls.

Yes, they will keep trying and maybe leave a note and/or send a letter so you can reach them and find a time to meet. They may also interview your children at school (they are allowed by law to do this). CPS workers are legally required to see your children and you ASAP once a complaint is made. But not all complaints are true and accurate so if there is nothing to the complaint they don't need to keep your case open beyond checking out the initial complaint. If there are minor issues your best bet is to work with them-- they might actually be able to help you with something (some services are offered to only cps families).

They called ahead of time for us and made an appointment.

Well since my ex is a whack job I have had to deal with DFS which sounds like the same thing. They call first though and make sure you are home. Then again I don't think I was ever the one called on they just wanted to talk to me. Oh yeah, once my then five year old told the school I left her home alone, yeah they called.

I would assume, if they are coming, they have concerns & will keep coming, and may visit your kids at school. I doubt that they'd leave a note, but maybe.
