My 6 month old son is now eating some solids....I just would like some suggestions about when and what should be fed. How often??? WHAT??? I know that milk is supposed to be the main foods until they are 1, but I also know that he is at the range when you do start them on some solids to start an eating routine. I don't want to take away from his milk and also don't want to over feed him. He is already large enough!!! He weighs 21# 15oz. I just can't figure out a routine of breakfast....or lunch or dinner....just once a day??? 2x or 3x???? How much??? Mixed with what??? It wasn't this hard with my first 2 kids.....HELP!!!!!!

I have been trying some suggestions from family members and Dr.'s but I want to see what everyone else thinks. They say stick with the milk every feeding....but morning feed him some cereal with fruit.....then a veggie for lunch.

I don't like feeding him so much cereal because his milk has to be thickened with it where he has bad acid reflux. He is experienced with Stage 1 and now some Stage 2's. So should he eat a whole stage 2 container at every feeding???? How many times a day??? I think I so repeated myself, but this mom is about worn to a frazzle!!! THANKS :) Sorry to VENT ON YOU!!!! It never was this hard!!!

What can I do next?

I totally understand where you are coming from. There should be an instruction manual on these types of things! At the 6 month visit with the doctor I asked her for a menu. So she gave me this: "Your infant should be feeding 3 (occassionally 4) times per day...Formua maxium of 24-32oz and average 12-18oz per day...a solid food schedule includes cereal and fruit for breakfast, a vegetable and fruit for lunch, and the same for dinner..." Here are some "NO foods" for your baby's age: "No corn, fish, peanut butter, whole wheat, citrus, tomato, egg white, dairy or honey, or meat-vegetable-noodle combinations." "You can mix single foods together on the same plate but now you need to introduce adult table food. Use the rule of thumb: If you can squish it between your two fingers, your baby can gum it."

OK, so the way that I applied that to my baby who is now 7 months and 3 days, is 6-7oz bottle with cereal 3 times a day. 1 "Stage 2" jar per meal. Fruit at breakfast, vegetable for lunch, and combination (ie chicken and apples) for dinner. I feed her the bottle first so she gets all the vitamins, then I feed her the jar within 5-45min's later. I don't have any other kids, so it is just easier for me to give her baby food instead of adult food. My daughter seems satisfied after eatting that amount, so I think for now that is what I will stick with.

I'm sure you will figure out what is best for your baby! Sounds like your baby is healthy, and really that is all that matters; even if that means you are not feeding him like everyone else!
It's funny how it seems like this would be so simple to figure out, but until you're in that situation you don't realize how stressful it can be! :) Best Wishes

The Association of Pediatrics highly recommend you don't even begin solids until they are 6 months old... so that's what I did. I began feeding her only once a day... lunch. I fed her rice cereal (you absolutely could use stage 2) with fruit mixed in and a veggie. I make my own food using the book called "Super Baby Foods". Even if you choose not to make food, it is a wonderful resource for telling you when, how much and what they should be eating at what age. You can then switch to twice a day, breakfast and lunch shortly after (I started at 7 months). You can also choose to feed them 3 times a day at 7 months old, that's your and your baby's own preference! I private messaged you with ideas for foods and at what ages to introduce certain ones. You have to be careful b/c of the way they digest certain foods and watch for allergies at all times. Oh, and you should always stick with milk feeding. The food is just added to their feedings, never decrease what they are drinking.

My daughter is 7 months old and I had the same questions you had. My daugters's doctor told me to have her on 3 meals a day by the time she was 6 months. I started with the stage 2 cereal mixed with fruit in a jar for breakfast and she drank 4-6oz of formula. About 4-5 hours later she would eat lunch. I would feed her stage 1 fruit and a stage 1 vegie. She also drank 4-6oz of formula. Another 4-5 hours later she would have the same thing she had for lunch. I hope this helps. Good luck.

My son was the same way....and i was like you, had no trouble with the 1st 2 kids, then along came my son 7 years later..... I asked his doctor and his doctor said to not give him cereal in his milk to feed him from a bowl, and only do a couple ounces in the morning and milk to wash it down with. Also said that as for a schedule, when it was nap time, bottle only. Then the next time he was hungry to feed him a small of veggies, and milk to wash it down and the same with dinner time. Bedtime a couple ounces of cereal and some milk, my son too was a porker, but he quickly out grew it and lost the weight once he started moving around. Doc said to feed him veggies first then introduce fruits or you can do half a jar of veggies and half jar of fruit, or u can buy the yogurt mixture cereal jars....but my biggest problem with the fruits was keeping my hubby and oldest daughter and middle daughter off of the bananas.....hahaha go figure had 4 babies who ate the bananas..... good luck

Let him lead you. He should turn away or lose interist as he gets full. I would stick with just giveing him a jar at dinner time and then in a few months do lunch and dinner then wait a few more months and do breakfast. And for breakfast you could always give him a fruit in place of the cereal that way it isn't just empty calories.
