Although my son's preschool is not peanut free, we just found out today that there is a severe peanut allergy in his class and have been asked to not bring pb anything in his lunch. Lunch has to be finger foods in throw away bags (no thermos or containers).....Son is not fond of sandwich meats or cheese. Don't want him to eat just chips for lunch!! ...So I'm soooo lost.....Help - please!!

What can I do next?

plain noodles/pasta (you can add cut up red or orange pepper- crunchy and sweet... maybe even a cheese cube or two... he may eventually start liking it more). Healthy cereal (my daughter prefers her cereal dry). Rice cakes or chips are healthier than regular chips.

Some ideas for you to peruse and combine:

- sunbutter - it's similar to peanut butter, but it's made from sunflower seeds instead. If you don't tell him, he may not notice the switch. (But I'd tell the teacher so she doesn't get upset thinking you are disregarding the new rule)
-jelly sandwich
-My son isn't a fan of lunch meat either, but he will eat it if I spread cream cheese on it , roll it up and call it a lunch roll up
-deviled ham or chunky chicken sandwich spread for sandwiches
-dried fruits
-fruits
-veggies
-freeze dried fruits and veggies (my kids LOVE these, you can get them at sprouts or central market)
-pretzels
-popcorn
-pasta salad (in our house this is usually pasta served cold and I throw in olives and tomatoes...the wheel pastas make this easy to grab)
-boiled eggs, or deviled eggs
-egg salad sandwiches
-tuna salad, maybe let him spread it on a cracker instead of a sandwich
-tortilla roll ups...cream cheese and whatever I have handy
-snack crackers - cheese it's teddy grahams, goldfish, etc.
-hummus in crackers or in a tortilla
-cut up hotdogs or chicken nuggets, if he'll eat them cold
-muffins
-bagels
- edamame, as long as you peel it for him at home
-cold pizza

Raw veggies and those single serve dips?
Yogurt with fresh berries to dip in it?
Bananas, apple slices,grapes,strawberries?
I wonder if he would like meat and cheese if you put them on pretzel sticks...sort of like a mini shishkabob...it might just be fun enough that he would eat it
Would he eat veggies and meats in a wrap? You could cut them into manageable sizes for him and he could even dip it in the yogurt
Chips and Hummus

What about fruit- grapes, apple slices, melons cut up, etc. Does he like string cheese at all, since that can be fun to eat. Other ideas veggies with a little dip (guess that might not work in a bag), pita bread with hummus, bagel or mini bagel with cream cheese (he might like the flavored ones better- I don't like the plain, but love strawberry cream cheese).

egg salad in a pita (wrap in plastic wrap before putting in baggie), string cheese (maybe he'll accept it because it's fun), frozen go-gurt (they thaw in time for lunch), grapes, apple slices, Lunchables chicken nuggets, goldfish crackers, Lunchables pizza, carrot sticks, raisins, cashews, almonds, fruit snacks (like Gushers), home made fruit leather (much healthier and easy if you have a food dehydrator), on the topic of food dehydrators you can also send banana chips, other fresh fruits like peach wedges or kiwi slices, nutella sandwiches (nutella is like peanut butter, but it's made with hazelnuts and cocoa instead) and so on... fresh fruits can really fill in the gaps and round out an otherwise thin meal.

Good luck!

celery with cream cheese and raisins or craisins my son loves that we call them "ants on a log" pasta salad with whatever additives he;ll eat ;cheese cubes, peppers, grape tomatoes, tuna. Rice pudding. I've seen kids bring cereal and milk and pour it in! dry cereal is good too with lots of fruits and veggies. If its mostly fruits and veggies he could have a few whole wheat crackers. Why cant you send a thermos??? You can buy those Glad throwaway containers at supermarket.
