Ideas for a Two-year-old's "Car/truck" Birthday Party

As a young girl, I loved my Matchbook cars! I would give everyone the same stuff in each gift bag. It is a car-themed party, so even girls that might not like cars will still have a memento to remind them of the fun party! Stickers are good for all at that age and not likely to be just thrown away once they leave the party. I wouldn't give too much because as others mentioned - they won't remember the 'stuff' anyway! They will remember the good time they had.

I think books are the best party favor and you could tie a sucker and balloon to it if you want. Sounds like you have great ideas for your party. You could make stoplights for a snack. Take a 1/4 grahm cracker and let the kids use frosting or whip cream to hold m&m's for the "lights"

This party sounds good. im having my two year olds party in september. my viewpoint on birthdays for little kids is they are not going to remember their 2nd birthday, and niether will the guests' children. I would not worry about a party favor, for they are only 2 years old. I like that you are having it outside because kids like to be outside so they will find plenty to do. i think the food ideas you have are wonderful, and i like how you are using your own toys for decoration. if you wanted to have a little coloring station with print outs of cars and trucks from the internet, that might be a fun little thing to do also. well sorry i am all over with randomness. but overall, dont stress over the little details. the children have no idea what a goody bag is so you dont have to stress over it, if you want to get each child a hot wheels car, that could be fine. i know this past party i went to they had gotten some helium balloons and gave each child one of those and that seemed to work really well. hope this helps. have fun and good luck

At my son's 3 year old birthday party we got a bunch of little wooden cars from a craft store and had the kids paint them themselves with washable paint. My one year old nephew participated as well. Both the girls and boys loved this. Although 2 is a little younger I think it could still work with parental involvement and old tshirts. In terms of cars, at 2 I don't really think it matters. I know at 5 when my son gave out things that were a little more boyish the girls really weren't all that impressed with them. My daughter didn't mind. Think about what kinds of things you would want around your house when you give out party favors. Cups, stickers, cheap coloring books might be better received by parents than some of the novelty items that will be thrown away.

I think you are right on with the decorations...sounds like you've done your research and really anything else may be a little overboard for two year olds and their parents. You can get a hotwheels cake from Target or Walmart to go along with the theme also. As for goody bags, whatever you give the boys, give to the girls. My girls loved hotwheel cars. You could buy the $.89 - $1.00 Hotwheel cars and put them in a bag with a few peices of candy and a balloon or something partyish. The girls will love it too. And it's not sexist. For my son's second birthday party earlier this year we had a "Cars" theme. For the goody bags we had bought some Cars stuff, but the stuff the kids had the most fun with was what I got cheap at Wal-mart. Bubbles, cheap sunglasses, and wacky straws. Even my now 14 year old niece loved the goody bags.

You have a great party plan. Remember, at two years old the kids don't play together much but they do enjoy playing side by side... so if you want to include some more activities, plan something the adults can do with their little ones. Cars are great for boys and girls. Of course we have musicians, pilots, teachers, scientists, police officers etc in our family and gender isn't an issue in any of these for us. Our little girls loved robotics and dolls in equal amount.They are great moms and good with technology. Our littles boys played dolls and rockets. They are great dads now and still blow up everything on the 4th. Let them play. You will be delighted to discover who these little people are if you let them enjoy it all.

Sounds like you already have some really great, creative ideas. I think the collage table is a great idea. My little girl (2yrs) does that at her daycare and always like it.
As far as the gift bags, I know my little girl and her friends that are girls all love playing with cars. You might also consider putting in bubbles. All the 2-year-olds I know love bubbles and you can get party packs of small bottles really cheap, especially this time of year.

My girls are 12 and 9, but they enjoyed cars and trucks in the past. In fact, my 9 yo will still play with them, and she is a tomboy of sorts but definately has her pink girly side.

i think cars in the girls bags are fine-just give the red, pink ect.

other ideas for party favors- party favor crayon rolls that hold 4 crayons and little drawstring bags for to put the party favors in- i make both of these if you are unable to. they are $1.25 ea and can be made in car fabric. you can get crayons at the dollor store

They all sound like good ideas to me. I also wouldn't worry about goody bags at this age, but I do like the idea of giving each child a balloon. All kids love balloons anyway.

I am starting to plan for my daughter's 3rd birthday party. Can you tell me what the collage table is? I've never heard of that.

Hi K., I think the party sounds great! With it outside I wouldn't worry about finding things for them to do, they will just love being outside and playing with the other kids. We had my daughters party at home, outside (for the first time) this year, she turned 6. Easiest party I've ever done. The kids had a blast, we had a beach thing going. Broke out the slip & slide and a $20 blow up pool and they were in heaven. I would just pull out things they can play with outside, like cars and trucks or balls. As for the goody bag, my sister and I have both been scaling down. Neither one of us let our kids have a lot of candy and so we don't want to give it to other kids. We look for fun stuff to give them and we've been on a cup kick. We try to find a nicer, plastic cup with the party theme on it and give that with maybe a small toy. So if you could find the plastic cups with cars on them and then pop a toy car in the cup I think that would be plenty. If your worried about the girls, find them a girly car. I have 2 girls and we have a small collection of Hot Wheels, they like the pretty cars. Have fun!!

My only other suggestion for decor would be to buy a couple car magazines and cut out pictures, mount them on construction paper and hang them up! You could even blow a couple up or shrink them down if necessary on a copy machine. Sounds fun...I always love a theme!

As far as goody bags, I agree totally with everyone else, a car is great for girls too. Other ideas are little car chocolates, you can order those online or they probably make gummies too, they might even have "Cars" fruit snacks you can buy at the grocery store.

get out the boxes. they each can have their own car or truck made out of these. just cut of the flaps and glue on ribbons so they can hold them up. they can also decorate them using crayons and the sticky contact paper. Have fun.
