Hello! My mom is turning 56 (young mom) this week and I need some ideas. She has been giving me the same ideas for years (sweatshirts, earrings, table cloth...) and I am bored with them. My dad died 3 years ago and she doesn't go out a ton so I would like to take her out someplace. In the past I have taken her to plays (Chuch Basement Ladies...) but I am stuck this year. The event can take place anytime in Nov/Dec, I'd just like to have an idea to tell her when I see her on Thur for her bday. Your ideas would be great!

Plays - alot of local high schools have their fall plays coming up. It's amazing the talent of these kids and the cost is reasonable.
MN Zepher train - We purchased ticket for my mom 3 years ago and she loved it.
Casino - I hate to promote gambling. But alot of casinos have GREAT shows with reasonalbe hotel rates - as well as pretty decent restaurants.

I wish you the best of luck. I know we have this "gift" problem for our moms each holiday year. Oh, that reminds me. Does she have grandchildren??? We made my mother-in-law a quilt (I am not all that handy, but did it flaws and all) Large center square said Grandma's little Indians (she loved western stuff) and then framed with smaller squares - some had western looking stuff, some were just a plain brownish pattern and then we wrote with fabric paint her grandchildrens name and birthday on radom squares. She loved this. Just a thought for future gift ideas.

Has she ever seen the Tran Siberian Orchestra? I know they travel around during the holidays, and everyone who has ever seen them says it is spectacular! H. that helps
I like all the ideas posted so far -- they are all great! The only other thing I can think of is taking her to a winery. Not sure what is available close to Mpls (I live close to Madison, WI). Or if she likes beer, Chippewa Falls isn't to far for you to tour the Leinenkugels Brewery. I'm sure there'd be a nice B&B around there so you could make a weekend of it. I'm sure she'll love and appreciate any effort you put into her special day! Have fun and happy birthday to your mom!
how about a christmas play or ballet? the nutcracker suite in ballet would be fun to take her too!!!
you might see if there is a "sing along "HANDELS MESSIAH" Planned for your area. They are a lot of fun, even if you or your mom are not good at singing - the whole audience sings along in most of the program with a few solos from the cast.

I am 52 - will be 53 in January. I too am a young mom/grandma *LOL* Anyway, it would be awesome to do something that the both of you could enjoy together - a real mother/daughter time and something the both of you will remember. Get an appt for a massage each and a pedicure if the budget will allow for both and then go someplace nice for lunch.
If you contact the beauty college in your area (or close by) you should be able to get the same thing done there at a fraction of the costs! The students are always needing people to "practice" on and the charge is very minimul. By the time we are in our 50's - we basically have whatever we want/need ... but ... we don't ever think about 'buying' these things for ourselves although we might think about how nice it would be to have this done.
Good luck - what an awesome daughter you are to try and find something out of the ordinary for your mother. She is blessed to have you!

How about a day at a spa just you and her. First out for lunch and then to the spa. ALL women like being pampered. You have to be careful with massage during pregnancy, but they can adapt it for you. If you want to make an entire day of it: shopping for an outfit then off to grab lunch at a simple place, off to the spa & then how about dressing in those outfits and make a trip to the Chanhasen Dinner Theater for dinner and a play. Take any or all of it... Happy birthday to your mom. Great of you to celebrate her while she is here and an able body. I lost my mom some years ago and wished I had of gotton a chance to engage in activities with her. GREAT daughter you are.

If you enjoy the plays maybe the two of you should go to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.
I also think a spa day for the two of you would be fun too! Get her a new pair of sandals and then head to the spa for a pedicure together.....
It might be nice if you and she did a salon day. You could go for a massage, get your hair done, nails, etc. THis way you could have fun together and celebrate as mother and daughter.
