Hello,
Im about 10 weeks pregnant and sick as a dog. I have taken zofran and reglan and they are not working. I dont know what to do. I feel like I have the stomach flu everyday and I have two kids to take care of, and not to mention my house is trashed. My husband works all the time. Im really starting to feel helpless and depressed. Its a beautiful day and Im too sick to do anything with my kids.

What can I do next?

I agree with the prenatals giving you the upset stomach. Once I started taking mine right before bed I was able to tolerate them w/o any stomach issues. I would suggest trying that before stopping them completely. If it doesn't make an overnight difference then I would try eliminating them all together. HTH

My DIL was sick her entire pregnancy. Everyone needs to pitch in and also understand that this is a TEMPORARY situation.... even if it does last the entire 9 mos (which most likely it won't and you'll be fine as frog fur soon!).
Lay on the couch and let the kids play by you and maybe set them up with some crafts or whatever toys would suit best while mom is immobile. Give dad a "cheat sheet" of the "essentials" that you really need him to help you with each day. Most things can go during this time. Don't beat yourself up, just figure out the best way to get through it. Get you a pen and a tablet and make your plan and then give it to Dad and say "Please Baby, can you help me with these things till I feel like my ol' self again?" Give him a smooch and a squeeze and I bet things will get better.
Just rest, your body is working hard putting together another human being.

Thats what I always compared my morning sickness to-having the stomach flu EVERY day! You poor thing. I would say to not be afraid to call on people for help. You don't say whether or not there are family members around. If yes, ask them to help. You need it. If you have any young girls in your neighborhood or if you know of any see if they can come over for a couple hours as a mothers helper. They can take your kids outside for a little so you can rest-or if you feel up to it tidy up a little. You wouldn't have to pay them much and it would be SO worth it.

MS is the worst. If it weren't for that I would have had more children I think, Hopefully yours will be the first trimester only kind.

I'm sorry that you're dealing with all of that :(. Have you discussed a possible diagnosis of hypermesis with your doctor? I'm not sure what else they could do other than the zofran or other medications like it, but sometimes certain meds work differently for certain people. Maybe there is one that your doctor can try that you haven't had yet.

Are you taking prenatal vitamins? If so, talk to your doctor about possibly changing those over to Flinstones vitamines instead. Sometimes the extra iron in the prenatals can really bug our stomachs and that can wreak havoc when we're already dealing with morning sickness in some form. My doctor put me on two flinstones a day and told me to take vitamin b-6 a few times a day (if you're going to do the b-6 talk to your doc about how much to take) and it didn't eliminate it, but it did help a bit. That regimen in addition to your prescription meds might help if your doctor approves it.

Another thing you can talk to your doctor about is Unisom. Some doctors recommend it to pregnant women to help with morning sickness. How it works, I couldn't tell you. I go to forums on Justmommies.com and several women were told to take a certain amount and they said helped.

Another important thing to remember is that you're more likely to get sick on an empty stomach. Don't worry about what you're eating so much as that you are getting some kind of food in your body. If it sounds good, try it. I survived on McDonalds, pizza and Subway subs for the first 13 weeks of my pregnancy. For some reason that was more appealing and could minimize the nausea more than crackers or anything else. Don't forget to drink too. When we throw up a lot we get dehydrated quickly! If water bothers your stomach (it did bother mine so its possible!) look at trying lemonade, peppermint tea, ginger teas, ginger ale, plain soda water, sprite, 7up, flat coca cola (some women say flat ginger ale at room temp is easier as well).

I've heard that the sea bands that help with motion sickness can sometimes help take the edge off of morning sickness.

Good luck, I hope you can find something that helps you!

The older kids will be okay - this is temporary, though I know it doesn't feel so temporary at the moment.

I was sick, sick, sick with #3. I wouldn't take anything. Acupuncture helped a little.

1/2 a unisom tablet and a vitamin b6. Its called diclectin in Canada but not available in the US. I don't know why, Canadian's have been using it for a VERY long time and it is completely safe. I used it for all 4 of my pregnancies and have 4 very healthy and very intelligent little boys. Here is the link to give you some more info. http://diclectin.com/

Oh, I am so sorry, thiis sounds awful. I had terrible heart burn and felt like I was breathing fire, however, never felt like you are. I have heard sucking on pepperment candy helps this type of feeling, I hope they are right so you can feel better. I do know the feeling of how frustrating it can be when the house is trashed and it is so nice outside but you can't enjoy it. Give yourself grace, I know us moms have a hard time asking for help but this is the time to call the girlfriends in, friends want to help and you need some help right now and I bet they would love to love on you right now. Maybe you need someone to take the kids for a afternoon break, a meal, or someone to come do a few loads of laundry and pick up the house some. If this can't happen then just don't beat yourself up, you are in survival mode right now, it will get better, remember that, your house will be clean again and you WILL feel better soon. Hang in there.

Oh that has to be horrible! I'm so sorry! I am 13 weeks along and a sahm to one and also babysit 3 other children. Luckily I only have mild morning sickness which hits me off & on whenever it feels. I notice when I feel sick and eat something sour (candies, strong lemon water, etc), or ginger (be it ginger snaps or ginger root tea) I feel better. I have a friend who was in the exact same shoes as you. Every day until she delivered she was sick as a dog. Her medications would only work for an hour or two at best. Her saving grace was mommy pops. I'm not sure if you've heard of them or not- but it's a frozen treat, like an icee. She ate them off and on all day. She also wore the wrist bands used for nausea. She said they helped some as well.
You're children have probably noticed that mommy isn't feeling well but I'm sure it will not scar them that you can't be 100% for them right now! Perhaps as someone else has mentioned a play date for them with family or friends will let them get out and enjoy their day or some scheduled daddy time. Maybe daddy can rearrange his work schedule a little bit until you get to feeling a little better? After all, being pregnant you still need to rest some too!
And as for your house- it can always be cleaned later! Don't worry so much about your chores just yet. Even if one thing a day gets done it'll be fine! Maybe your husband can help a little bit in that department too! And I'm not sure of your kids ages but perhaps you could make a game out of picking up their toys! You could lay on the couch for a few while the kiddo race to pick up their toy! Who ever finishes first wins!
I hope you get to felling better soon! Take care and hopefully you can find relief from morning sickness fast!

This is exactly what happened to me and I thought second pregnancies were supposed to be easier! Anyway, what really helped me was to have a very rigid set schedule - take the Zofran as you're supposed to and make sure to eat a little something every 2 hours. I actually set the alarm on my cell phone to remind me that it was time to eat or take a pill and did this all day long...annoying but it REALLY helped. I was still nauseous but it stopped most of the vomiting and I could semi-function at work again! I mostly stuck to crackers because that was about all I could handle, but you may find other things that work. And also make sure you eat FIRST thing when you get out of bed. Evidently keeping a little food in your stomach prevents you from getting hungry, because when that happens you're too sick to eat. Hopefully you'll be done with the morning sickness at 12 weeks...mine stayed until 16 weeks! Ugh! :(

Good luck!
