Ok I have noticed this week that my belly is now laying on my legs!! My mother and sister says that i have dropped and that my son might be getting ready to come out. And my son is not moving very much this week so far. Should i be concerned that i might go into labor early?? This is my secound child but my daughter didnt drop until the week that i delivered so i really don't understand what all of this means!!! Any advice would help!!!

All pregnancies are different. But if you feel the baby isn't moving as much I would call your doctor, they can check his movement. My OB said the baby should move consistently until you're in labor. Just to ease your mind, I would call your Dr.
Each pregnancy is going to be different. I've heard of people dropping around the same time in the pregnancy or much later (as you had with your last one).
I never dropped with either kid, but I carried much differently than most Moms.
When my kids got bigger, neither of them moved a bunch. I'd end-up in the hospital drinking coke to try to get them wired so the OB was more comfortable.
When is your next OB appt? It never hurts to call and ask if they want to see you before then.
Remember, any questions about your pregnancy, call you MD. Especially if you are concerned about the movement. You are paying your doctor to answer ALL your questions while you are pregnant. You can't bother them too much. So call the office for any questions.

There is no hard and fast answer to that. Babies can drop weeks before labor starts, or right before (or even during) labor.Every person is diff id say just listen to your body if you think some thing is Wrong go see your doctor. I had to go in 2 times at the end of my pregnacy because i wasent feeling the baby move and my doctor said its because there isent as much room so less room for the baby to move. Now if you dont feel the baby move at all go to the doctors..
Hi K.! I, too, dropped early with my son. It was completely different carrying our daughter. My belly didnt drop until about a week before she was born. Just relax and enjoy the last few of weeks. Every pregnancy is completely different. If youre worried about the movement, call your doctor. Congrads on the new member of your family!
If you're baby's movement has decreased at all, call your doctor immediately. Call the after hours line if they're not open.
The baby may just have switched position. I swore up and down my first daughter had dropped, but she was never actually engaged. I kept making the doctor check b/c I was so sure she was ready to come out. She has shifted down but that was it. At this point, I'm sure you're seeing the doctor pretty regularly. I would just wait till your next appointment and bring it up. If you start having contractions, then I'd either call the doc or go to the hospital.
K.,
Each of my 4 pregancies were different... my last one I felt huge and did "drop" really early. But he was also my biggest... he was 8 lb and the others were all 7 lb 4 oz. With you being due in 8 weeks you should be seeing your doc every week or every other week... talk to him/her about dropping & the baby not moving as much or give them a call. Personnaly I wouldn't be as worried about the dropping as the non-movement, although both might be happening because the baby is running out of room to move.
If I'm remebering correctly - at one point I was told that most moms do drop earlier with each pregancy. The muscles are never as strong as they were with the first & also your body has been through it before... it kinda knows want to do a little better the second time so to speak.
Congratz & good luck with the little ones!!
All babies slow down at the end because there isn't much room to move anymore. Lay down and do a kick count a couple times a day. 10 movements in an hour or less = OK baby. My babies never really dropped, everyone pregnancy is different.
Hi K.! Relax. :) My former boss dropped early too & didn't end up having the baby til a week after her due date. A lot of women will drop & have the baby shortly after but not always. Everyone is different. Your baby may have had a big growth spurt in there & needed to move down some to make some room for himself. Perhapse that's why he's moving less. When all else fails, ALWAYS call the doctor if your concerned. At worse the doc will say your over-reacting & let it go but always rather safe than sorry. Congrats on the new baby!
Hi K.,
I think your best solution is to call your Doctor this morning and ask this very question. Be sure to mention the movement of the baby.
Like others have said every pregnancy is different. I am thinking it isn't uncommon to drop earlier when it is not your first pregnancy. What concerns me is the movement of the baby. You need to contact your doctor and maybe get a stress test to make sure the baby isn't stressed in there.
If you're concerned about the movement, don't hesitate to get into the Dr. But as far as "dropping", you still may not have even though it feels that way. I'm carrying my 3rd child (a girl this time) and have always carried low so that I can't sit with my legs together etc. I'm due in a week so I got checked last week and the baby was still "floating" and hadn't "dropped" yet at all. You're abdominal muscles may just be weaker this time so you'll carry lower (and in my case - waddle more).
