Hello, this is absurd, but last year I bought a pair of Dansko clogs for myself. I wore them a lot in NY, got some wierd stares by many on a trip to D.C. and now having relocated to Europe, I wear them less frequent, because of the unusual stares. I really like them. They are comfortable and for my feet anatomical. I just feel a bit strange in them now. I want to wear them often again, but how can I conceal them? What is the best way to wear them?. My legs are also quite skinny, which makes me look like the monster from Frankenstien. I'm not a cool, hippy looking mom who can carry them off well, just more toned down.
I'm already thinking about wearing them tomorrow. I miss them, especially my feet. Thank you to the mom who gave me the website to help me get a look together.

Okay, I have to admit something. My feet are ugly, I mean like semi-deformed. When I was young, I refused to wear flip-flops or sandals, and it was difficult for me as a competitive fighter who had to be barefoot.
One day, I said to my mom, "If people are going to be staring at my feet, then they have much bigger issues to worry about than what my feet look like!" And I have been wearing flip flops every since.
......anywhoooo.......
I found some cute pics on how to wear them. I love the idea of a rolled cuff, or slightly flared leg to downplay the chunkynesss of the shoe. I had some major chunky platforms years ago and I either wore them with the slight flared leg or with tights and a short skirt to play them up. and (I have skinny legs too...another body image thing I had to get over!)

That's really odd! I have worn numerous pairs of Dansko clogs all over this country and Europe. They're European in origin (Danish, actually). Are you sure you don't just think people are looking at you funny because you feel insecure in them? I always wear mine with jeans -usually boot cut jeans. My closed back ones I wear with skirts and dresses and sometimes pants/jeans, but my open back ones I almost exclusively wear with pants/jeans. Once in awhile I'll find a skirt that I think they look good with, but usually the open-backed ones look better with pants and jeans.
Don't worry about it -just wear what you want to wear! Where are you in Europe? Start looking around and you'll probably see more clogs. Even in places far removed from Northern Europe they seem to be a pretty popular style shoe.
Not to give you a complex of any sort, but keep in mind that, depending on where in Europe you are, people may just be looking at you because they know you're not a native and they're trying to figure out where you're from, etc. I've found that happening to me in a number of places -small towns in Italy and out in the countryside of the Netherlands, UK and Belgium especially. It's always just been interest and curiousity though -nothing ugly.

LOL my girlfriend feels the exact same way... but I don't her 'you like them, you bought them, ROCK THEM with confidence!!'... who cares what other people think? I still wear my grandmothers old sweater jacket with huge wooden buttons. I look completely ridiculous and the color is just awful on me, but you know what? I LOVE IT. I call it 'ugly sweater', and I've been wearing it since high school. I owe no one an explanation on why I love such a hideous (yet extremely comfy) article of clothing. If you wear what you like with your head high, no one will question it. Just rock it, and laugh at the stares... they just wish they had the guts to do the same ;)

Wear them with long pants and make sure you have something colorful or bright up top-with accessories- that way people will be drawn to look up at you, your face-your earings or scarf-whatever you want to wear and they won't be looking down at your feet. Find some interesting, funky jewelry and you will be bound to have someone ask you about that! Good luck.

Don't worry about what anyone thinks. I'm all for comfort these days. One of my favorite pairs of shoes is some pink, rubber clog things I got from Avon for breast cancer awareness. My hubby hates them but they are so darned comfortable I wear them even when they might not be that appropriate... haha.
I've lived all over the country and naturally in different regions, certain things are more accepted than others. I myself am a big Birkenstock wearer, but probably don't wear or do a lot of the things that stereotypically go along with wearing Birkies. Frankly, you shouldn't do anything to disguise them or downplay them.
If those are your favorite shoes (I like them too!) and that's what works for you, forget everyone else. I mean really, life is too short and precious to worry about what other people think of your shoes. Tell people to walk a mile in those shoes and maybe they'll stop staring.
Be you and be proud about it!

ive had many Dansko shoes.. how about wearing them with more of a bell bottom pant? even a boot cut.. even if you weren't really thin, if you are wearing those shoes with a skinny pant leg for example, it can make the shoes appear big and clunky.. also,,, it's winter in ny.. you could wear a leg warmer with them... that would give balance to the thigh area.. those are in now.. pending you get cute ones... give that style a try..
Wear them with wide-leg or at least boot cut pants. My mom actually wears them to church with wide-leg black dress pants and they look just fine.
Where I am in the northeast, they're not exactly common (except in hospitals, where nurses and doctors wear them, because, face it, they're the most comfortable, supportive shoes around). However, I don't think I've ever gotten weird looks wearing them. It may just be that I don't care or notice people's looks, though. They're comfortable and good for my feet, which matters way more to me than strangers' opinions!
why can't you wear them? do you have a link to these shoes? (of course, the shoe maniac that I am, now I need to see them).
anyhow, i see no reason for you not to wear them. you know, sometimes, the shoe makes the outfit. I may look badly put together in terms of clothes but I always rock it with shoes. and really, i have plenty of very weird-looking ones. also, are you sure you're getting 'unusual' stares as in, negative? put please put the link. need to seem them now.

Maybe you're just being self conscience I don't really notice anyone's shoes unless they are a cool pair of tall boots.
Maybe they want some just like um.
I really don't see anything different about those clogs than any other clogs. I see stuff like that at Walmart all the time.
