There is a Light the Night walk that benefits Leukemia and Lymphoma coming up in Frisco. The walk is on the 28th of Oct. and I know they were needing volunteers to help with that. Go to www.lightthenight.org
I am needing to get some volunteer work done and I do not know where to look. I live in Carrollton and do not want to travel too far. Do you have any ideas on anything I can do.

I looooooove Meals on Wheels - I am actually going to start doing it again and taking my 2.5 yr old twins with me. I figure it'll be a good thing for the kids to start seeing at an early age and the people we'll be delivering meals to will love to see the little ones. I just Googles "Meals on Wheels" to get the link. Also, I know the pet shelters are always looking for help and you could probably find one close to you. Good luck!
There is a place in Lewisville called Christian Community Action. they do tons of different kinds of things- food pantry, thrift store, job training, literacy classes. I'm sure they could use you!
You can check out www.volunteernorthtexas.org then look under volunteer jobs, or click on volunteers then link to agencies and it list 100's of agencies looking for volunteers. There is also a way to search by county.
try the Salvation Army-they are a great organization.
Call the Volunteer Center of North Texas and tell them you're looking for something in your area.
Or, go to http://www.guidestar.org and check out all the nonprofit organizations. Not sure if you can search by city but try it. Another one is the Foundation Center web site.
Operation Kindness is a no-kill animal shelter in Carrollton. They might have some openings. www.operationkindness.org
I also live in Carrollton, but I do volunteer work in Flower Mound for the Humane Society of Flower Mound. They are a wonderful all volunteer non-profit animal rescue group. www.fmhs.org for more details. The reason I chose them over groups closer to home was because I found them to be more organized, yet more in need of help. They have many different types of volunteer opportunities other than just taking care of animals such as fundraising, laundry, office help, etc.
