With my first baby I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarium (morning sickness gone WRONG!)

I was hospitalized 4 times for days at a time. I was taking phengren, zophrin tablets, protonix, reglen, steroids and finaly The Zophrin Pump (where a cath. was placed every few days under my skin and pumped zophrin 24/7).

We are considering having a 2nd and last child and I wondered if any other mothers who experienced Hyperemesis Gravidarium with their child. If you have other children previous or afterward did you get that sick again?

I am really worried to get that sick again...I was literaly starving to death! I am non functional when that sick. I am hope that i wont be that way again but want to know if other sufferers had a one time experience or if it was with their second child as well.

Thanks a bunch!

What can I do next?

I feel your pain. I was sick from 5 weeks until 3 days AFTER I had my daughter. Truly the worst feeling ever. I haven't had a second one, but my best friend is a doctor and she told me she has never heard of a women to be that sick (true Hyperemesis Gravidarium) for multiple pregnancies.

To make a long story short...yes I had Hyperemesis with both pregnancies....and I would have had it with a third, had we chose to have a 3rd child.

And I had 2 girls too,,we think that has something to do with it..all those extra female hormones running thru my body.

But..all those meds, trips to the hospital and toilet..all those days, weeks, months on bed rest...were well worth it. I got two beautiful girls in the end..and I would do it all over again if I could.

Hi Trish,

I hate to tell you this, but if you have hyperemesis with your first pregancy you will probably have it with your second and it will be worse. I am an antepartum nurse and have taken care of many hospitalized women with this condition. It also tends to run in families. I have taken care of sisters etc. with this complication. Good luck to you!

Well, I hate to tell you this, but I had Hyperemesis in 2 out of my 3 pregnancies. Different medications worked differently in each pregnancy, and one was worse than the other, but I was hospitalized both times. Mine subsided after month 6, thankfully. I totally understand how you feel! However, all said and done, I am SO thankful that I decided to "tough it out" through my subsequent pregnancies, because I have 3 wonderful blessings now!
