Humidifier

I need to buy a humidifier because my 2 year old son seems to be getting this viral infection every month. It's been going on since November. I'll be taking him to the doctor this week but in the meantime I think a humidifier will help with his cough that lasts only seconds but comes back every 2 to 3 minutes, on and off during the day. Does anyone have any recommendations? I bought one long time ago, a cheap one of course but that's not doing anything except sprays some mist on the air but it doesn't go too far.

I've had great luck with the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier. Just be sure to follow the cleaning instructions as the heating element gets quite disgusting with hard water buildup!

Try the Vicks cough patch. You can find at most drug stores but not grocery. I actually use them on my 86 year old Mom. I also use them on all my kids. A little sticky but they really do work on the constant coughing. Post nasal drip is usually the cause and if it's okay with your Doctor I would suggest a decongestant. Mother nature has given us enough rain so don't waste your money on a new humidifer. Best wishes for a healthy boy soon.

I definitely think the humidifier will work, but I can't recommend a good brand (you can check consumersearch.com and they will have a good list of recommendations). My daughter had a similar condition for several years and we finally took her to the allergist. Turned out she had many allergies and with treatment, her persistent cough improved greatly...just a thought. Good luck.

I use a warm mist humidifier that uses ultraviolet light to sterilize water and vaporizes water that avoid white dust. I got it from One Step Ahead and L. it. I tried the cool mist humidifier but my daughter's room got SO cold she couldn't sleep. I also tried the cute animal humidifier from Crane but the humidity went straight to the floor so all we got was a damp floor. There are concerns about burns with warm mist, I don't leave it on if my daughter is up and about. (no need!) If she climbed out of her crib or was in a toddler bed, I would put it up high enough that she couldn't reach it. She knows it could burn her so she doesn't mess with it ever. She's 2 1/2 yrs old. Good luck!
