Hubby Is sick..how Do I NOT Get It?

My husband stayed home from work today with a 102 fever and a cough (he rarely stays home, so this one really hit him hard). It came on fast, and so far I feel fine, but I really REALLY don't want to catch whatever he has (I suspect bacterial infection rather than viral, but not sure), although when it comes to colds, we usually both get it anyway. I'm off this week, so I spent most of today pumping him full of liquids, chicken noodle soup, and bad 80's movies, haha. I washed our bedding, have been wiping down surfaces, and washing hands a lot.

Anyway, we are rarely sick, and we don't have kids yet, so I don't really deal with these situations often. Is there anything else I can do to prevent myself from getting sick? Am I able to sleep in the same bed? What else can I do to help him? I know if it's viral it will have to run it's course, but the poor guy just looks so pitiful.

Thanks, ladies!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! So far I'm still feeling ok. Wonder if I'm in the clear yet? My husband is still sick and has a fever, but it's going down finally. I haven't made it to the store to get Airborne yet, but I definitely will. I slept downstairs last night and got some much-needed sleep, and I'm still telling hubby I'm NOT IT. :) Thanks again!

Zinc and Echinacea help to boost the immune system.

I have been playing NOT IT -- NOT IT for over a week. My granddaughter started it vomiting --could not keep anything down. Then my baby grandson, his Mom, his dad, my other son and the one I feel really bad about is my daughter's boyfriend. He works offshore and this was the first Christma he was home in 12 yrs. He was sooo looking forward to spending the day with family and ended up tossing his cookies all day and if it didn't come up it went straight through.

Just keep telling him NOT IT -- NOT IT.

it may be too late by now. if you"re going to get it you"ll get it. usually by the time the symptoms show up they've already shared their germs. oh well! get rest and drink lots of fluids.

It sounds like you are doing all of the right things. I guess sleeping elsewhere would minimize your exposure, but you live in the same house and are breathing the same air, so it probably doesn't matter. Do you take vitamins? I discovered some superior supplements about 5 years ago, and in that time, have only had 2 colds! The company also makes a great immune boosting supplement for times like these when you know you are being exposed. I think this is the right link for info, but if not, feel free to contact me. Good luck! www.oligofructosecomplex.net.

Incubation... is about 3 days.
So... your Husband got sick TODAY.
But, for the past couple of days, he had the virus/germ already.
At which time, he is contagious even if he was not yet, outwardly sick.

Then while actively sick, a person is contagious.

Wash hands. Sanitize things.
Just because he is sick does not mean you will be.

My daughter, last week, had the Stomach Flu. I didn't get sick and I'm the one that handled her and cared for her and cleaned up her vomit etc.
I didn't get it.
And I stayed RIGHT by her, all during the night, as she slept. And helped her with the bathroom and cleaning up.
She had diarrhea/vomiting/fever/chills/body & stomach aches.

Pump yourself full of liquids, chicken noodle soup and bad 80's movies! Take extra vitamin C, take a nap, use a separate bathroom and separate hand towels for each of you. This is what I do when my kids are sick and I don't want to catch it, and it seems to work for us.

Sleep in a separate room. Have him wear a disposable mask. My husband had the flu last year, was in bed for a week and we had a new 2 week old baby in the house! That was fun taking care of all of them! I slept in the baby's room and constantly washed my hands, used disposable plates/cups for hubby. The rest of our house did not get sick.
Good Luck!

I tried airbourne. I guess i didnt take enough. I got my husbands sickies on christmas morning. Sadly, i dont think there is any avoiding it. I do agree that your hubby may have passed it before you saw symptoms. I hope you can escape it! Good luck :)

Airborne. I am so adding them to the list with Dawn detergent that needs to send me royalties.

I swear to god, full kissing sick hubbie and I take it and never get sick. If I ever find the person who invented it I am going to hug them, then ask for a check for the number of people I get hooked on it. :)

Oh, it will help him too.

haha! that will be two people they owe me for. :p

Wash your hands all day.
Lysol and wipe down every door knob, toilet flusher, sink handle, etc.
Isolate him. Give him one bathroom and the bedroom. Don't let him out until he feels better.
If you bring him something to eat, wash your hands the minute you leave the room. When you take his dishes, put them in the dishwasher immediately, and wash your hands.
Carry your hand gel with you and douse yourself in it.
You might get lucky...

Ugh. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop, isn't it?
Keep what you're doing and take Vitamin C.
You 'could' sleep in the same bed, but why would you?! LOL
Avoid him & his germs like the (no pun intended) plague!

If you think it's bacterial, then you might want to think about taking him to a doctor for antibiotics. It wont be contagious once the antibiotics kick in.
