Shaklee makes a great product called Nature Bright. It is safe for septics.
I don't have big iron issues, but yes, there is some brown/rust colored marks on the toilet water rim and at the bottoms of the sinks no matter how much I scrub. I mostly use baking soda instead of Comet. I've tried Oxy Clean for the laundry. Really don't want to use bleach due to the septic system.
Anyone have any "miracles" for getting whiltes whiter, especially on clothes with colored stripes and things like that? They just look so dingy!

vinegar. I have well water too.
Try some vinegar in the rince cycle of the wash. The wash will come out smelling sweet not like vinegar. You can also add the baking soda to the wash as well. If you use bleach add some Ridex to the septic after.
Bleach won't do anything to your septic. The only way to get whites white,
IMO. I have tried everything.
My MIL had to get a really good water filter system. She couldn't drink the water so it was worth it. My sister lived in the country too and would always have reddish light colors. She was so glad when they moved into town and she could buy light colors again. Good luck with the products!
