How to Get Rid of Cloth Diapers

Goodwill will take them and then throw them in the trash, just like they would do if someone donated underwear. No one will buy them.

I kept all mine around and used them for cleaning up messes until they fell apart and I threw them away.

Do you have a bean sprout shop near where you live? We do in COlumbus and they take used cloth diapers and resell them for half the price. Just an option =)

Prefolds are fine for cleaning! They don't look so much like cleaning cloths but they work just as well. If you lived in my neck of the woods, I'd ask you to send them to me!

But you could call your nearest pregnancy center in Indiana and ask if they could use them. Or the Red Cross. Or any other agency that helps people in need. You could call Goodwill, too; they know what they are allowed and not allowed to accept. Can't hurt.

I use my old cloth diapers as dust rags around the house or just general cleanup cloths for messes.

However, depending on where you live, do you have a shelter in your area? A domestic violence shelter? Homeless family shelter? Families with young children always need diapers and if they have access to a washer/dryer maybe a donation of cloth diapers would be appreciated?

Some Goodwills will. When I worked, we'd get stuff like that bailed up and sold as rags. Have you thought about using them as cleaning rags? I think my mom still has some from 40 years ago (probably). My dad swears there's nothing better for cleaning windows.

Just read the extra info. Freecycle probably would be the easiest.

When I was done with mine, after 2 babies used them, I lent them to a friend of mine who had a baby a few months ago. After she's done she is welcome to try to sell them, or to pass them on to whoever needs them.

I totally agree with giving them to a women's shelter or crisis pregnancy center if you have some near you.

salvation army will take them. and to the previous poster who said that goodwill won't take underwear that is not true. and there are a lot of people who purchase used underwear. I know for all of my boys when there were in the potty training stages we bought them loads of underwear at second hand stores. not everyone can purchase everything new. no matter how much you would like to. if things have been cleaned they can be sold.

Do you have a Freecycle group in your area? That's where I picked up a bunch of cloth diapers and wraps.

One thing to suggest-- please make sure they still work. The ones I got had lost their waterproofing (the covers) and the diapers smelled like mold. Had to let those go.:(

I sold mine to a mom from my playgroup. You could try freecycle.

They are great for dusting, washing windows/mirrors, and buffing up the wax on the car, etc.

Donate them to Goodwill, Womens Shelter or some place like that and get the tax benefit from it.

However, I don't know if they would be in the same classification as used underwear. If so, then they would probalby throw them away. Used undies, Ugh

Try advertising them for free.

I would look and see if there are any local to your area yard sale groups on Facebook. I'm in a couple of them for my area and sell stuff through there.

You could make mama cloth out of them, or donate them. I actually still have a box of prefolds in my basement, and we are probably done having kids, so I guess maybe I am not the right person to ask :)

What if you put them on Craigslist for free?

Where we live items of clothing that are no longer usable can be bagged and put in the recycle bin. Check with your trash hauler.
